A happening bar with a great choice of drinks served up in a sophisticated manner. Can get a bit too packed but hey, you have to keep warm during these cold nights ahead.

This is a dinky bar with a friendly atmosphere! The prices for drinks and cocktails are lower than most London bars at £6−8. The interior is pretty bare/grey, but I enjoyed the laid back, no frills atmosphere.

Hidden down some rather untrustworthy stairs Freuds is a haven for cocktail lovers where they have a hefty menu to choose from and serve some types in pint glasses all for less than a tenner each. You can’t really go wrong can you!

Recently went to Freud for a date, really cool industrial vibes basement bar. The list of cocktails is huge and really good value for London. I had a Long Island and a Moscow Mule, both very tasty. The bartenders were very knowledgeable and was fascinating to watch them do about 5 orders at once without skipping a beat. The music was good, but because of the acoustics of the basement mixed with a lot of voices it was a bit loud and hard to have a conversation across the table. The only real negative of the night was that the women’s bathroom was completely flooded with toilet water and was to be honest, pretty gross. I doubt thats a regular occurrence but nobody likes potty water soaking through their shoes when they are trying to play footsie on a date… blahhh

Quaint little cocktail bar in the basement of Shaftesbury avenue. This is quirky place, it’s a bit like a concert bunker but it has atmosphere. There are a few tables and a small bar. The staff are great and really knowledgeable about cocktails tell them what you like and they will make a cocktail to match. I ended up with an amazing chilli chocolate cocktail, I could only think it could be quite dangerous as I had know idea what was in it it and it just tasted like melted chilli chocolate, nice and sweet with a good kick of chilli.

Great little basement bar, hidden away and found via a frankly rather perilous metal staircase. I’m a huge fan of this cave-like bar but do wonder how much I can claim to be as, I have to admit, I’ve never actually tried the cocktails. The wine is great though! And the surroundings are excellent so there you go. Just get there early as seats are at a premium.(One note — be wary of their card charges… I was once in there from 5 – 7 and, oddly, they started charging me for an under-£10 card charge after 6pm… hmmm.)

Strong and a wide range of cocktails. And MUCH better prices than the overrated Bar Termini around the corner. Neg? The music is way too loud so even though the setup has lots of places to seat, you have to yell to hear each other talk. Also, avoid sitting near the entrance as it REEKS like piss. The men’s loo is right by there as it turns out.

I walked smack into my friend I was meeting because I was befuddled by its location. Hidden down the stairs from where its name is hung, Freud café had a lively and unpretentious atmosphere. I was overwhelmed by their cocktails menu, but the bartender was more than patient and helpful in making my choice even though the bar was cram busy. The prices weren’t bad either! Listed they were about £6.25-£8 range. The Aztec(gold tequila, cocoa, vanilla, and Tabasco) is my new favorite drink. Ask for it with 5 drops of Tabasco.

I love this place, not so much a hidden bar as a bar that just happens to be in a basement, hard to miss to be honest. Amazing selection of cocktails and very reasonable prices for central London. I’d attempt to recommend some but each one I’ve tried is unique and great in it’s own way. Go with an open mind to trying something you may not usually go for, you’ll be surprised. Inside is quiet small but there is a section at the back to kinda perch yourself on if there’s no seats left. Crowd generally very chilled and relaxed, probably quite a few regulars which is a vibe I appreciate. Bar staff are great, knowledgeable and don’t mess about, you won’t be standing there for 15 minutes being ignored like so many dreadfully staffed bars in this city. Perfect place for a date or with a small group of mates, not sure if they take table bookings but worth inquiring as it gets busy early. Just go, you won’t be disappointed.

I wish I wouldn’t review this place because I don’t want more/other people to find out about it and ruin the experience … but goddamn they deserve 5 stars. This place had been on my list for a while now and I finally managed to go over the weekend. And it didn’t disappoint … Freud Café is awesome for a few reasons: — The Cocktails: a massive list is displayed behind the bar so it takes you a while to go through them. They’re good. really good. and the price is ridiculously reasonable and affordable as well(around £7 for one). The bartenders know their game. despite the place being quite full, they managed to get the order and make them quickly. — The Music: around 8 – 9 they turned up the volume and good house and minimal was blasting the place, yet still quiet enough to have a conversation. — The Venue: a hidden industrial basement with some artworks on the wall and quite an alternative crowd. Have I just found my new favourite bar? For this place to be in the city centre where it’s either full of pubs or tourist places, is amazing.

o9. o6.14 Did I tell you how much I wanted to visit London? No, it’s not able the drinking but how beautiful this place could be. Not to mention how there are so many artsy people around the city, even a bar can be as artsy as it gets! This bar is just so cute and cozy! It’s small but full of laughter. It’s not a fancy place to be around, but if you want a casual drinking date with your friends, you should give this place a try. I just love it. :)

A very cool alternative to your usual west end cocktail joint. This place is essentially an industrial cellar with funky art on the walls and one hell of a barman. He had that special knack for having 5 different orders on the go at any one time, so even though there was quite a wait at the bar I still felt looked after. Two of my mates went for The Aztec which was a little too intense for me(who thought putting tequila and tabasco in the same glass was a good idea?!). One of them loved it but I think the other was jealous of my gin and elderflower based concoction. The list is extensive and cutely chalked up behind the bar, with drinks reasonably priced for the area. We got lucky and scored a table as others left, but otherwise there isn’t that much seating. Plenty of concrete and hard edges décor-wise too so it’s not really a place to get comfy for a whole evening. But with the fun vibe and ‘in-the-know’ factor, the 3 single guys I was with all agreed they’d prob use it as a date place. I reckon make it your after-dinner drinks stop to make eyes at each other before heading home ;) I loved it — just be sure to mind your step on the twisty staircase leading down from the street. I almost gave ‘Freudian slip’ a whole new(and painfully literal) meaning…

I can’t quite make my mind up about this bar. It’s so close to my office I should be there far more often then I am. Despite the amazing cocktails, I find the actual physical experience of being in this bar quite unrelaxing. Compared to the London cocktail club just over the road in Grape street, there is barely any seating here, and you are constantly getting knocked by people trying to move past you, even if you’re seated! It definitely has a hipster/‘too cool for school’ vibe which I normally soak right up, but to be honest I wouldn’t go out of my way to arrange drinks here with friends or colleagues as better, more cosy and laidback bars exist close by.

Love, love, love the atmosphere and the speakeasy vibe. Especially loving the music(deep/tech house). Down the stairs and soon surrounded by bare concrete and brilliant lighting, it’s a joy to drink in. It reminds me of New York, and that’s A Good Thing. I’m less sure, however, about the cocktails. Several visits have lead me to conclude that the Diageo tie-up, whilst rendering cocktails cheap(ish) for the area, doesn’t quite work. Sure, there’s more than enough in the way of spirit variety, but then choice within that? Severely limited. I mean, come on, a handful of whiskeys only? Ultimately my visits to Freud bar betray my love of the atmosphere rather than the cocktails. Revamp the menu, chuck out the collaboration, and hell, even raise the prices a bit, and I’d be here more often than home.

Epic cocktail menu, all quickly yet expertly made — about £7−8. Downside is the filth and lack of tables.

Good cocktails but it gets super hot when busy. If you’re in town in the early afternoon it’s worth a visit but I’d definitely avoid it on the weekends unless you’ve got in very early to bags a table. Even then the crowding can get a little overwhelming. On the plus side the cocktails are strong and solid without being too overpriced(for central London that is!) It’s a good ‘cool date’ place or somewhere to bring someone who doesn’t know London well.

Very cool bar. Come along if u need a refresher course on the London fashion scene. Very trendy and youngish crowd — which would explain the really affordable and creative cocktail selections. Hidden bar. Felt like I was going to rave with Keanu Reeves in the post apocalyptic Matrix cave. Music was awesome. Going down creaky metal staircase in my DK wedge wasn’t my best moment — but I made up for it by pretending to busy with my phone. Will come back when trying to impress out of towners that i’m in the ‘in’.

Themed as some kind of post apocalyptic basement, with a rude bar tender and hard of hearing floor staff. The mojito I ordered was basically fine, nothing to write home about, but amongst the smallest I’ve probably ever had from any bar anywhere. Not a fan. Also, a visit to the gents toilet almost involved a trip outside… All in all it reminded me of Yorkshire. With expensive drinks.

Freud Bar is a mind trip. Begin your journey of self-discovery by first, finding this bar. Not easy, as it’s basically hidden. Look for the narrow metal staircase leading down below a café, you’ve come to the right spot. Don’t trip going down(or going back up after a few drinks) and come into a very chic cavern like bar, complete with cement walls and funky artwork. Of course, you’re here for one thing — and that’s to get to know who you are as a person. And there’s no better way to do this than through drinking. The cocktail list is long and impressive. Don’t know where to start, ask a bartender, therapists in their own right, who will director you accordingly. This place can be packed on the weekends and it can feel a little tight. But any other time, comfortable, relaxed, pull up a seat(or lay down on the couch) and your problems will melt away. I’d come again for sure. As long as we don’t start talking about your father issues. Then I’m out.

Pretty good cocktails made with fresh ingredients for a reasonable price(£7−9). We came on a Thursday at 630 and got a table. We left at 8 and it was filling up but not obnoxiously crowded. The vibe was decidedly art-hipster, by way of music, staff and photography exhibit currently on display, but crowd was normal Central London post-work friends and a few dating couples. A good spot if you’re in the area but I don’t know that I would gather up a group and make a destination out of it.

We were finding this place pretty cool until it came to pay. The waiter had wandered out with the trash and we ended up stood about like lemons, in everyone’s way. Took awkward ages! The Pimlico cocktail I had was quite tasty though and there is a nice laid back feel to the bar, which regularly shows art for your perusal. We were sat around haphazardly on the slightly raised area at the back. It’s just not for me though.

For divine cocktails in a viby environment, Freud’s is a London MUST. Enthusiastic barmen throw together an impressive array of cocktails and all very reasonably priced between £4 and £7. The crowd can be rowdy in the small basement space, and you must not be in a hurry, but this is a place where all sorts can feel comfortable and a perfect starting point for a good night out!
