Great little pub. Most of the food is delicious but can be a bit pricey. The service was friendly. They do the steak well. Came for a birthday dinner and they let me bring in a cake from somewhere else and even brought it out with my candles for a lovely surprise at the end. Thanks guys.

At first glance the menu showed some promise, but the execution was dire for the cost. The start of the meal was promising; I had a lovely ginger pale ale that reminded be of a beer I once made. This«Ginger Fox» is apparently made for this restaurant. It was quite crisp. Anyways.because I arrived early, I couldn’t order dinner and could only order from the appetizer and bar menu, which was fine by me. I ordered the smoked haddock and tarragon cream alongside the«pepper» soup of the day. Well.let’s see… the haddock serving size for 7 pounds was proportionate to a small olive bowl. It was minuscule and a bit insulting for the cost. Though the taste was adequate, the execution was amateur. It basically consisted of tarragon steeped cream and quality haddock… seemed a bit effortless to me, and exorbitantly priced. Then I gave the pepper soup a try… and was even less enthused. There was nothing at all in this dish that enticed me to continue eating. It was a bit pointless. The taste can be described as stuffed peppers without any of the stuffing. Bland city, UK. I had to jazz it up with a generous portion of sea salt and the leftover tarragon cream to give it some sort of character. Meh. Sorry.

If you ever want to spy on someone, have the waiter sit them at the table for two against the inside wall of the back dining room. Then go lock yourself in the cubicle in the women’s bathroom. You can hear pretty much everything. I would make an excellent spy. So freaking cute and welcoming, towards the Clissold Park end of Stoke Newington Church Street. We went for dinner and it was lovely. Not too expensive, not pretentious or uptight. The server was amazingly kind and attentive. The wine was DELICIOUS and not over-priced. Food was good… it wasn’t the best in the universe, but it was definitely made with care and felt like a home-cooked meal. The back dining room has six small 2-person tables in a very small room, which can make things a bit awkward or interesting, depending on what you like. We experienced a couple to my right who were definitely on their first or second date(amusing) and the two dining partners to my left were discussing the amazingly delicious deep-fried turkey they had in America. I rarely get all proud to be an American, but could not help but want to high-five them. Deep fried turkey is AMAZING. It was too chilly to sit in the back garden, but there were still some folks out there. I’m excited to come back for some wine and nibbles when it’s a bit warmer.

Really nice old style pub. Hss a nice outside area too. Food is great, they have a good selection of organic ales and other beers and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Recommend if you are in the area.

Quiet and cosy, wooden bar/restaurant, with lovely little garden out the back. They have a number of games at hand, plus interesting wine lists and some good beers. The food was average, but they do use free range meat and eggs. Plus portions sizes were large and the cost very reasonable. The staff are really lovely and welcoming. Looking forward to going back.

When in Stoke Newington… do as the Stoke Newtingtonites do! Great for a grabbing a meal when conditions dictate that you and your friends need to eat before a capital crime is committed in the name of low blood sugar… or in the case of my cousin… long term under-exposure to beer. Friendly staff. Good selection of wines and beer. Nice comfort food selection. I find the Reformed Fox to be a great reflection of this neighborhood. Warm, funky, tasty and a good mix. It makes me ponder what the Fox was, and why it ever needed reforming.

What a lovely place to spend an afternoon drinking wine and playing board games! Menu looked interesting as well, will have to go back to try the food, but I can heartily recommend a lazy day here, especially if it is cold outside, because it is so nice to be warm and cozy and boozy while kicking ass at Scrabble.

Having spent the best part of 30mins looking for Mulled Wine with no success. I was about to give up when I stumbled accross The Fox Reformed. A cosy bistro bar with warm and welcoming staff. The mull was superb warming and went down a treat. So impressed was I that I returned in the eveing to sample the food. The staff were as freindly as before and it was nice to be greeted with a welcoming smile. The mull was as good as before and the carrot and corriander soup was wonderful served with warm tasty bread. Lovely atmosphere. I will definately go again to further sample the extensive menu and of course the mull!

Went here just before a gig at Barden’s Boudoir. A great little place with history as well! The wine list was good and the atmosphere was welcoming. The service was exceptional and the food was fantastic as well. I will most certainly be back to sample more of their fares.

This wonderful wine bar on Church Street prevented an argument with friends after a particularly testing experience of StokeFest. We had stumbled out of Clissold Park hot, tired, and more than a little fractious; in short in need of a drink! After a few false starts we found the Fox Reformed. It is run by a husband and wife team. The main room has about 10 — 20 tables with a bar in the corner. You can use table or waiter service, and all the staff are charming. There is a short but tasty menu. There are a great range of wines and this is a great reason to come here, but if you are not in the mood for wine, they do stock two ginger beers: one mild, one fiery. The atmosphere is characterised by a gentle bubble of conversation that feels like it should be vaguely intellectual — even if it is more likely to be focused on Brand and Angelina’s latest adoption. There are also a few boardgames; backgammon, chess etc. The bar hosts monthly wine tastings and a few other occasional events which would be worth checking out. It is definitely to be recommended.

This small, cosy wine bar in Stoke Newington is famous for its game playing. Backgammon tournaments are held here regularly, and there are a selection of other games to play for the less competitive minded. It can provide a welcome respite from the winter weather and I have spent a pleasant New Year’s Day here playing Scrabble and Jenga with friends over a few glasses of red. There’s also a wisteria-lined walled garden at the back, which is a nice place to drink a refreshing glass of New Zealand Sauvignon blanc in summer. The food is not cheap, but very palatable and the menu is traditional if unimaginative. I’d go for the wine rather than the food, but if I happened to get peckish while I’m there I wouldn’t turn up my nose at it!

The Fox Reformed is one of the most consistently reliable restaurants in the area. Its the default choice for when my brain is too tired to deal with anything too new or unpredictable. The menu does change but the favourites remain — hot, herby rolls with melted butter, then a minute steak or fresh grilled mackerel washed down with an interesting wine and, if I’m not too full, a chocolate pot and tawny port to finish. Jenga, backgammon boards and packs of cards are strewn around and contribute to a very relaxed atmosphere. The owner will greet you from behind his wine bar and you are likely to have the same friendly Northern Irish waiter I’ve had on dozens of visits. There is a nice courtyard out the back with regular backgammon tournaments and wine tastings.

This small and friendly wine bar and restaurant has a very sunny courtyard which can get quite warm in spring. Even on a clear night, its quite pleasant to sit outside with a lovely chilled bottle of wine, and some nibbles from the restaurant. The wine list is quite extensive, so if you need some help making your selection, the owner-cum-barman will be happy to help. I found the staff here to be very friendly, and although the restaurant is a little small, its a cozy place to eat. The courtyard with its wooden fence with ivy on the top, and large tables is worth a visit on a sunny day, or warm evening. The lattes and coffees are also quite good, and you often see people here lounging with a book, some paperwork, or a laptop. The quiet and relaxed atmosphere is one to be savored on the weekend.
