Embargo Night Clubs

Good, location from a mates house. It is a little expensive and also a little pretentious with they type of clientele that attends this place however strip that back an you have a good music selection, large area however small dance floor. Good VIP areas and ok staff. 3 star

Went here on a Friday night and had a blast. The music was top 40 and great to dance to. The bouncers inside wouldn’t let anyone on the dance floor with a drink and were very aggressive. The dance floor was very small. The age range was from young people to parent aged people who looked like married couples came to dance with each other.

I have been here several times now. Awful club! Much, much better places to spend your time and money in Chelsea.
First of all the two black men who bounce are idiots. They think they own the club, and also the streets surrounding the club. Twice, they refused us entrance even though we had a table. We still got in, though, after speaking to the manager. They should just keep their mouths shut and let the door manager do her job. I personally think the bouncers are racist towards asians.
Inside the club is empty. The music is trashy. The décor is tacky. The only good thing about the club is the smoking area, which has its own bar.
When you leave the bouncers will usher you away and make if hard for you to find a taxi from the street. Annoying if you have a group of girls in heels.
If at first they refuse you entrance, you can easily get in by offering to buy a table with a bottle minimum spend. This is a sign that the club is bad because nobody has booked up the tables!

All the previous reviews are scarily accurate. I can’t add much more. I’m in a good mood today and can’t find it in myself to be as scathing as I need to be to sum this place up.
If you literally have stacks of money to burn, do it here. Others will love it.

Embargo? Yep there should be one in place to prevent naïve party-​seekers hopped up on sunshine and Pimms (like I was after the polo) from going here. A ridiculously wannabe posh (and a bit snobbish) bar/​club that seeks to get the Mayfair celeb-​haunt vibe while forgetting it’s just on a street with a pub. It’s one of those places where the people you are with make the night great despite the drawbacks of the place. So basically, no, I’m not happy with my experience and will never be going back.
First off, it takes ages to walk here as it’s well off the beaten track for tube stations (although that’s par for the course for the Chelsea area). Once you get there, you are made to wait in line for at least 15 minutes before being considered for entrance. Now when the club is jumping, that’s a fair thing as I understand concerns such as fire safety etc. However, when the place is dead quiet you should be welcoming drinkers and dancers not attempting to create an aura of exclusivity by making us wait out in the light rain.
Next came the ID check. Sure, again I understand wanting to keep underage drinkers out but when no one in the group looks even remotely under 21 let alone under 18, is this really a necessity? Especially in London where a good portion of us only have a passport as ID and that special document isn’t coming out on the lash with me. The bouncer did a great job of condescendingly lecturing me on how he’ll do me a favour but next time wouldn’t let me in. No worries mate, there isn’t going to be a next time.
Inside, as noted above, the place was empty. While it did fill up later with fellow polo people, that was a once off not a regular event so I wonder just how many people go on a usual Saturday when it looked like a ghost town at 11pm when we got there. Although given the high price of drinks, I’m not really that surprised most avoided it or chose to go to the Mayfair/​Oxford Circus glamour clubs instead. I hear there is a rooftop terrace but if so it must be in the VIP area from which we were rudely turned away.
I’m a believer in ending on something good, but I’m struggling a bit here. The dance floor is a bit small but benefits (and I use that term loosely) from a floor to ceiling mirror wall at its edge. Which naturally resulted in many of us dancing with our reflections (because how often do you get to do that?). Hilarious? Yes but with that bitter note of awkwardness that needed to be washed down with alcohol.
Overall, I wouldn’t bother with Embargo ever again. For the price point, you might as well go to a posh place a little more central and if you are just going to have fun with friends the pub down the street is likely to be a more appealing option.

Went to Embargo’s on Saturday night for my housemates birthday and had a pretty good experience. We descended before 11pm, and so only had to pay £5 to get in (the cover charge is £15 after 11pm, which i wouldn’t pay). We waited only a couple of minutes before going up, and the door staff and reception girl were all polite.
Inside, you can tell the place has been recently refurbished. The bar itself is nice, and so are the toilets, but i was a bit disappointed by the roof terrace– I feel like it was sold as something much more impressive than it actually was. Perhaps I’m being a bit unfair though, as it was so busy out there that it was hard to really see anything.
Price wise, I’d say be careful about what you order, and if in doubt ASK. I bought a cocktail, all of which were priced at about £8.50, which i didn’t think was bad. However, the bottled beers aren’t listed on the menus, and my friend was charged £5.60 for a bottle of Corona. Spirits and mixers were about £7 so pricier than your average, but to be expected.
The dance floor was the busiest place in the whole club, but the music was a good mix and the light up floor was a fun (if slightly retro) touch.
People wise– it was pretty rah-​y. Guys were generally in shirts and shoes, but for girls, the dress code was pretty anything goes. A few posers, but most people were just having fun.
Overall, I was pleasantly suprised. Whilst I wouldn’t run back to Embargo’s every weekend, if someone suggested it, it’s worth treating yourself every now and again.

Went here a few times with friends after places in richmond closing and I would say that if you haven’t had a fair bit to drink it wasn’t worth it.
May have possibly been refurbished since I last went — I really hope this is true. It is an excellent location but the inside did not impress me.
Be ready to spend ££ if you do go here before having a drink, as being on the kings road you pay London prices.

Basically, never, ever, ever go there, ever!

Went here last night for a friend’s birthday party. Didn’t have much fun. Thankfully the wait to get in was not more than five minutes. (I really don’t think we should have needed to wait at all, though, as our friend had rented out a section of the place and it was before 11pm.) Once we ascended the three flights of stairs and got into the club, we again had to wait behind a guarded entrance to an almost empty room — the room our friend had rented. Another five to ten minutes passed and we got in.
I guess this place focuses on mixed drinks, which I don’t enjoy and don’t drink. The wine and beer selection was pitiful. My partner and I each had a glass of red wine and it tasted like vinegar mixed with grape juice. I’d like to know how long the bottle had been open, because it had certainly started to turn.
The music was not too loud and obnoxious when we got there, but I really felt like it was getting louder the longer we stayed. Our room got crowded and people got rather pushy. The ceilings were kind of low. Waitresses and hostesses seemed to be walking around doing absolutely nothing — except for getting in the way and bumping into people. They certainly weren’t carrying drinks around or being helpful in any way.
After about an hour and a half my girlfriend yielded and allowed us to leave. She loves clubs and knows I don’t and would never willingly admit that a club — any club, anywhere, anytime — is bad, but I could tell that she realized that this Embargo place had really not «found the formula.» And after my detailed disection of the piss-​juice red wine they served us she realized it shouldn’t have tasted like it did.
I hope I never have to go back here again.

Now called Embargo 59. I was invited to the preview night on Weds. Place is completely different. Apparently spent almost £1m on the refurb. Best outside terrace I’ve seen for ages. Great cocktails. Light up dancefloor. V much worth a visit.

This club just on the edge of Chelsea is depressingly similar to Crazy Larry’s right next door. These clubs both exist so that posh, rich people can meet and discuss the possibility of combining their genetic material so that they can create more posh, rich people to eventually form an army strong enough to put South London into a Range Rover and drive it off the cliffs of Dover.
I’ve only been here once (in an extreme gin based emergency) and honestly I’d never go back. The space is marginally better than Larry’s, the drinks are more or less the same price and the music is drawn from the same 15 year old’s ipod. There is a tiny smoking area here which is depressingly like those booths at airports but achieves the same effect of making you rush, as quickly as possible, to the departure gate.
