Good venue in a good location. Popped in for an unplanned lunch whilst catching up with some friends. On walking in the bar was right in front and greeted by welcoming and happy staff ready and willing to help. Grabbed a bottle of Pinot and found a table next to the window with views of the green opposite. It wasn’t exactly the best day weather wise but could see how it would be a very pleasant view in the summer months. Décor inside was great too. Trendy wooden tables and chairs which looked appealing but didn’t sacrifice on comfort. Loved the idea of menus clipped to old vinyl records still in their sleeves. Really novel and added a bit of charactor. Menu choices were a little limited and whilst I prefer smaller menus as there is more likelihood of ingredients being fresh this was perhaps a little limiting. Meat wise it was braised chorizo, burger or shepherds pie. Quite a few vegetarian options too but no real apparent starter/desert type options. Took the cheeseburger in the end and it was certainly one of the best I had. And love skin on chips(yes chips, not fries!) which were clearly cut on site. And not bad prices either — Most expensive meal on the menu was £12. Staff very attentive too. Took away plates as soon as they were finished with, and even asked permission to take empty glasses. Nice touch. Well worth a visit if you’re passing, want a good value meal but kicking to touch the value décor and service that often come with lower priced venues.

This place has a really great ambiance, and the pints are… London priced, no more no less. Other than that this place is very ED – subpar, hipster, with trendy but not so good tasting food. Friends came by and had the bangers and(instant) mash and could not even finish it, it was that bad. In fairness my food wasn’t bad, but if you’re spending 15 – 20 pounds on pub lunch shouldn’t that be the expectation?

The East Dulwich Tavern is a sizable pub conveniently located on the main road. I came here on a Saturday night and it was busy but there was plenty of room to spare. The décor was interesting, the floor looks like it has been in place for 100 years and the walls seemed to covered in items rescued from a house clearance for someone’s Grandmother which seems to be a popular theme in London pubs these days. They have a good selection of beers on tap which were reasonably priced by London standards. I’ll try and return next time I am in the area.

Love this pub. Really nice food(recommend haddock and chips) and good place to catch the football!

This is the sort of place you can spend a long Sunday in, tasty food, nice drinks and a great atmosphere. I’m becoming a bit of a fan of the whole chain — the same people run the Tramshed in tooting and the Bowls club in Balham

A lovely pub/bar on the corner of Lordship Lane. This pub/bar holds a relaxed atmosphere and cheap drinks into the early hours of the morning. There are tables and sofas, and they have a open fireplace in the centre room. The décor is warming and comforting with dimmed lights and dark wood flooring. They have a gorgeous food menu which is reasonably priced and the food is excellent quality. The location is fantastic and surprisingly is not over crowded on a Friday/Saturday night. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed!

East Dulwich Tavern is the first pub that greets you on Lordship Lane from the Peckham end. It’s a sizeable building that looks the part, with large doors that open out on to the street and benches outside. As such, I was initially a little sceptical about the service that my friend and I might receive — was there a danger that a pub with such a prime location might feel that it didn’t have to make an effort? Thankfully, those fears were quickly dispelled. After installing ourselves at a table with a prime view of the World Cup football(I counted no less than three TVs in the pub — pretty impressive), a staff member came over soon to take our orders. Table service? In a pub? Apparently so! Their range of beers on tap were pretty decent, with Cornish ales, US wheat beer Blue Moon, Grolsch Weizen and Apple and Pear Cider alongside the likes of London Pride and Timothy Taylor Landlord(their Fruli was off). The food however, was the jewel in the crown. My friend and I both ordered fish and chips, which was cooked to perfection: the fish in thick crunchy batter; the chips, roughly cut with skins. There was even a smattering of mushy peas in there. Yummy. I followed this with a Strawberry Eton mess, which quickly turned out to be the best such mess I’d ever had: cream, meringue pieces and fresh strawberries, all drenched in strawberry coulis. Doppel yummy — so good my friend quickly followed suite. In all, a very satisfying experience: friendly, attentive staff, fantastic food, good range of drinks, large, spacious venue and table service! What more could you want?

Reasonable pint from a reasonable selection. Gets a bit wobbly when it gets busy though, not the easiest bar to get served at…

This has been my local for best part of a decade and in that time, like most things in life, there have been changes; I’ve seen faces, regalia and hues come and go, but one thing has remained constant. The place is a veritable centre of the community, it’s a good honest pub, it’s central, the atmosphere is vibrant and it just gets it right. Under the current(2007 – 9 so far) landlord from the good old UsofA, Ray, things are about as good as they have ever been. He has a great eye for the details, keeps the lines clean and the staff eager and committed. There are screens with sport when it’s a sporty occasion, there are themed parties when the season calls for it(we even had one for the inauguration of Obama) there is live music and comedy. But the best thing it’s a great space for meeting and socialising just like a good pub should be without all the modern mores of pretension to greatness or gastronomy. A pub of the old school that knows how to thrive in the modern world. Hmmm, a quick reread and I think I may have got a bit effusive, but who cares, I love the place and there’s no shame in that, just don’t tell my mum I spend all my time in a pub!

There is no better place to get a cheap honest pint in Dulwich than in EDT. The bar is well stocked, and the food is fair and cheap. The staff is friendly and the bar is well stocked. Football nights make for a busy pub, but the atmosphere is very good.

The EDT has a bar, restaurant and often hosts comedy nights. This is the place to watch sports as they seem to show every football match. This encourages a sporty crowd which packs out the pub.

Time was I’d spend every Friday night propping up the bar in the East Dulwich Tavern with my flatmate as we worked our way through a cheap bottle of white wine and eyed up the local boys with increasingly flirtatious glances. We always got too drunk to actually chat anyone up but didn’t care, staggering home in fits of giggles via the local Costcutter(for more booze) and the brilliantly named Kebab And Wine(for falafel and chips). Now I am a grown woman, practically — I own tupperware and have Auto top-up on my Oyster card, for crying out loud! — and my boyfriend may be pleased to hear I spend less time hanging off bars and acting the sexual predator. I appreciate such wonders as fast, free wifi and decent pub grub, and thankfully EDT has both, plus a regular comedy club that happens in the room upstairs. I can’t vouch for the talent or the laughs, but the wifi’s definitely up to par and there’s something quite relaxing about getting some work done in a drinking establishment. Oh, and at Christmas time there’s always someone camped outside the pub selling Christmas trees — handy!

The East Dulwich Tavern or EDT as it is more commonly known is a nice local. Reasonable in size, clean and modern, EDT is not your traditional Dog and Arms image pub, but it nonetheless has a definite pub feel. Good for a pint(if you like) and catching up with friends, it is simple and unassuming. Everything you could ask for from a pub, without needing to be any more.

Trendy bar with great bigs seats which attracts a very young and lively crowd. Early evenings there is plenty of space for groups to sit and chat, both inside and out. The bar stocks a good selection of drinks at reasonable prices and at weekends there is a dj playing, sometimes a bit too loudly for the amount of people present resulting in it being impossible to hold a conversation. But when the place is packed this simply adds to the atmosphere and gaurantees a good night out.

This pub still has a lot of its original features and has a decent enough atmosphere.(Some of the tiled patterns on the floor are interesting.) Good service although it’s not the best place to be when a football game is on because it’s difficult to see the screen and it gets noisy. Other than that it’s well worth a visit.
