This is a pub with a casual comfy atmosphere and good food. We ordered a side of veg(delicious), a caesar salad(adequate), and a fish sandwich(delicious). The cons were the fries that came with the sandwich was cold and the salad was really very average, barely o.k. We experienced friendly service but I did note the same staff being slightly huffy with other customers. This pub is on a road less traveled when compared to other nearby pubs so less tourists and more locals. Prices hover around £12 per plate. It really feels like a proper pub, not something set up to rip off tourists. Lovely covered outdoor beer garden.

Great atmosphere. Great place for a beer in summer. The food is not gourmet but good comfort food. Prices are reasonable.

Upon arrival in London and we happened upon a cute pub down the street from the Kensington Marriott thanks to Unilocal and the concierge. Tried the fish and chips and butternut squash salad. Very impressed. Fish and chips were plentiful and very hot and crispy. Butternut squash was warm served over a bed of lettuce. The recommended pint of ale was delicious too. Highly recommend.

They lie about food service on their website. Intolerable! «We don’t serve food after 10, Surrrr.» Get a grip on life and get a burger cooking for a hungry customer who has walked a mile and had read your website. Beer is food I guess and it’s a handsome and jolly sorta spot so after four pints of ale who gives a good continental and anyway belly up to the bar boys for its HRH’s birthday and she gave a Knighthood to Kevin Spacey.

My family and I stopped here for lunch very tired and very hungry after just arriving from the States. We were not disappointed. The ambiance was lovely and the burgers were so tasty! We finished our meal with a decadent and wonderful dessert of peanut butter cookie dough cheesecake with caramel sauce(my favorite part!). Definitely would come back!

Good salad, salmon very nicely done, not too burnt like some others. Liked the deco, reminds me of CV in Guangzhou.

this pub has got one awesome Fried Chix recipe! — Much to my surprise to find such good southern fried chicken in a Kensington London Pub; Staff’s great, good place fer conversating worthy of a cross town journey. i do agree with other reviewers that the scene may be a bit yuppy, but that’s who we are ;) Now pass me some-more Chicken

I think this place used to be pretty good. The Sunday roast was certainly good. I enjoyed it, but when I returned a few nights later the service was terrible. Bartenders buried, the beer taps broken. Also, sanitation is a problem. There were tons of fruit flies, dirty bathrooms and the bartenders were using straws to reduce the foam on the beer, but not using fresh straws, just getting their fingers into everyone’s beer. It was pretty gross. There are better, cleaner places to go.

Can’t say good enough things about this pub. We ran through the rain to get here the other night because the menu looked really good online. Our waitress informed us that the kitchen was just about to close(9pm-ish) so we quickly ordered a burger and some oven roasted chicken. The food was spectacular. Better than any other pub food I’ve had in the UK or elsewhere. Order the roasted chicken with fresh peas and roasted potatoes — you won’t be disappointed! Great selection of beers and wine, too. Great cozy place to grab food with someone special or a group of friends. Wish this place were around the corner from my house!

It’s so confusing because this pub isn’t in Devonshire AND it doesn’t have any arms!!! What’s THAT all about??!

When in Rome. go for their fried chicken. And by ‘Rome’, I mean the Devonshire Arms. Seriously, it’s surprisingly good here, Crispy, well-cooked, generous in portion and good in value. With its also generous servings of oil it’s not the healthiest of dishes, but heck, it sure does taste good. Even the fried chicken connoisseurs in our party were impressed. We were only there for the chicken, but it seems to be a hit with the locals too as it was very busy when we stopped by. Service was still pretty good though. Though I didn’t drink, the beer offerings seemed good too, with an above-average range. But really, it’s all about the fried chicken here. Go, get the chicken and be heartily satisfied.

Friday night was fried chicken night. One of Katie B’s friends had said the southern style fried chicken was great at this pub, so 11 of us turned up to test it out As it was a cold and rainy night in December, it was busy inside the pub with a strange mix of clientele ranging from the really rather posh to others who were already severely inebriated when we arrived for dinner at 7.30. There’s no real segregation between the bar and restaurant areas Our table was reserved but there was a group sitting on it when we got there. However, Charlotte, our waitress was great at reclaiming our dining real estate for us when the allotted hour arrived. The atmosphere in the pub was quite chaotic but the staff did well to take our order The main negative for me was the loud music, which made it really hard to converse and I ended up with a croaky voice the next day due to excessive shouting As for the food, my first comment has to go to the buttermilk fried chicken. It was quite neat to see it served in a fryer basket. They were generous with each order consisting of half a chicken. Brining had left the chicken moist — even my breast wasn’t too dried out. The batter was nicely flavoured though I thought that being buttermilk fried, the batter layer would be thicker but it was good, especially for London. I prefer it to the mainly rotisserie style chicken that we get in London My starter of deep fried squid was again nice as were bites of sticky toffee pudding and mac n cheese that I tried from fellow diners’ plates The chicken was good but the pub was just a little too noisy and chaotic for me to put it high on my return list

Katie B gave us the scoop from her American friend that some best fried chicken was tucked away at Devonshire Arms, so to welcome back Jules H back for the holidays, we booked a table for 13 on busy Friday night for some good ‘ol fried chicken! First, the pub is BUSY, and as several have mentioned in their reviews, it looks like a fun happenin place, and it is! The rest of the menu offerings look really good and very reasonably priced for what it is. I ended up ordering the salt and pepper calamari with lime mayo(£6), the mac n cheese(£3), and fried chicken(£14). I didn’t care much for the calamari — fried nicely, but I didn’t sense much salt or pepper, and the mayo was just mayo, no kick to it. The fried chicken actually came with a pickle dip, and it was really good — I think if they paired it with the calamari, it would have been so much better! But it was just a boring(but good value) dish. The mac n cheese is a good sized side dish, and I think its one of the best mac n cheese dishes I’ve had in this city, especially at £3! Onto the main course, the fried chicken! My chicken arrived in a little fryer basket, on a wooden serving board, with a little bucket of fries, pickled dip, and some apple cole slaw. Loved the presentation! There were 4 – 5 generous sized pieces of chicken, and it was crispy on the outside, but just warm on the inside. We did place 8 – 9 orders, so I’m sure that the kitchen was probably a bit weighed down, and took a while before everyone at the table could be served at once. The apple slaw was delicious! I love having a good side of slaw, and never been able to find anything remotely decent in this city(either too much mayo, or not salty enough, or not enough of a kick. just boring and bland). I probably would have ordered it as a side if it didn’t come with my chicken! The chicken itself was juicy. I started off with the thigh pieces, and I gobbled them all up pretty quickly. I couldn’t finish off the breast(and its my least fav piece anyway). Andrew M said that it was alright, a bit dry — but I think thats usually the case with breast meat anyway. Katie asked me whats the best fried chicken I’ve ever had, and I couldn’t give an answer because I don’t normally eat fried chicken, and I haven’t sampled much in this city. In short, yes, its definitely delicious, great value, loved the slaw and the pickle dip, great presentation in a good atmosphere. But I’m slightly biased b/c the bf did make me some awesome fried chicken a few weeks back and it was different from standard fried chicken.

While staying at a flat around the corner, I stopped into the devonshire arms twice. Once for a few pints, and once for a meal. The pub is pretty standard, though a bit more upscale than(just look where it’s located), with lots of beers on tap, wines etc. They even had a bunch of American brews(not Budweiser), if you are missing home or are a Brit looking for a taste of Sierra Nevada. The prices are half decent considering you’re in Kensington/Chelsea. Pint of Guinness sets you back about 4 quid. The food was quite good and more upscale than a regular pub or a crummy JP Weatherspoons. They have delicious chips, and a nice array of «bar snacks» which can be had for cheap. Some reviewers commented on the clientele and that it’s more upscale, with those drinking wine. While true, what do you expect in this neck of the woods? They have a beer garden which closes at 10 to avoid bothering those fancy neighbors. Overall, a solid pub.

Nice pub, liked the cozy interior, but the food was a bit lackluster, much like the service. Granted, they were quite busy and there appeared to be only 2 or 3 people running the place. But I didn’t get any warm fuzzies here. The menus themselves(which are printed daily and dated) were impossible to read, as if their printer was running out of ink. They were so bad that we had to ask for another(a nearby table did the same). On top of that, they were out of several things, including two of the entrees my husband had his eye on. Apparently they were in the process of phasing out their old offerings. My husband settled for the half chicken, while I opted for the fish ‘n’ chips. Nothing spectacular as far as pub food goes. We felt like we could have gotten a better meal elsewhere that night.

Good food, excellent selection of beers, and very pleasant service. I recommend the mushroom, spinach, & onion tartlet as a starter(but good god man, ask for the accompanying salad’s dressing on the side, it’s ALL oil, gross!) and the asparagus-pea-mint-watercress risotto. That right there is really damn good! The sea bass is good too but it’s moored in a puddle of creamy thick sauce so if you’re watching your calories, maybe go for something else. Same goes for the risotto I guess! Service is very friendly and seating is first come first serve. It’s really loud & echoey so maybe not the best place to come for relaxing conversation. Oh, and during the week, they have a special prix-fixe menu that’s actually a really good deal — £10 for 2 courses or £13 for 3.

Last time I was in London for 10 days, I discovered this wonderful pub as I was staying just around the corner. We all loved this pub so much that we went by almost everynight. Interesting selection of beers, including belgian ales(and oddly enough, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale which through my Dad for a loop). Everyone working there was friendly, and some even got to know us as they discovered we were repeat customers for our entire trip. The inside is very cozy and the food is great. Loved the lively atmosphere! The Devonshire is probably one of the things I miss most about London, and next time I back(hopefully not too long) I’ll hunt this pub down even if I’m on the opposite side of town!

I love this place! Went there a bunch of times while I was studying in London — has a very local neighborhood feel. Awesome outdoor patio perfect for warmer nights. The décor is adorable and the food is delicious — typical pub fare with a gourmet flare, and pocketbook-friendly. The cheeseburger and fish and chips were some of the best I had in London. I only wish I’d been able to try more off the menu! I made it to quite a bit of pubs while I was in England, and this one remains my favorite. The collection of available board games is a big plus!
