Rather small menu and we did not exactly get a welcoming smile from the staff. But the food and coffee is tasty and it’s a nice place to relax on portobello road.

For an artisan coffee spot, I expected much more. I don’t recommend this place if you like velvety foam and a full cup! My caramel macchiato was full of big fat bubbles, and once it sat for a second it had sunk to ¾ of the way full.(I posted a picture of it) I had to ask for more steamed milk. It wasn’t very sweet, so I even had to add a packet of sugar and a little vanilla powder to give it flavor. Not worth the money, even a latte at Subway Sandwiches is better than this.

Coffee Republic is located at a busy corner of Portobello Road. Its main attraction are the tables outside which make it a perfect spot for people watching. While not a favourite of chains, I end up here a lot when meeting with friends who smoke. The coffee’s not as good as at the Coffee Plant a block further up the road and the indoors is absolutely uninspiring, but the relaxed market atmosphere make the pavement tables an absolute winner.

Great coffee with a really nice staff! Free wifi, but who needs it when you can sit there and look out the window to see the gorgeous Londoners walking by?

The staff here are just the nicest in the world. Once, when my friend and I were looking to sit and there were no tables free, a barista brought in an extra table from the back and two chairs and set them in the middle of the tiny shop. Another time, I hesitated when answering«for here or for takeaway» and a barista offered that the folks on the cushions were set to leave soon, if I’d like to take a seat. Maybe it’s always so crowded because the service is so lovely. The Italian chicken panini is really nice, and so is the double chocolate cookie.

Although it’s a chain, I also find myself wanting to go to a Coffee Republic when I pass by one. I like the Notting Hill location a lot. A perfect spot to stop for a coffee and snack while on Portobello road, especially if waiting for the rain to die down. Great coffee, nice staff, and free wifi!

Meh, it’s a chain. nuffin special. The coffee was decent. The service was a bit off. The guy got peeved that we didn’t order together? Sorry ok so you see two people walking in together. You should take the first persons order, ask if the second person wants something as well, and then ask if its separate or together so you can at least start making the second ones drink at the same time. He got all hot and bothered but I guess I should have explained that I was going to pay separate but order the same thing. Whatever. But put a bad taste in my mouth. Not coming back unless absolutely desperate for coffee and in the area.

This Coffee Republic is different from its other branches because on some days, the place is closed off to the public and reserved for private parties. However, customers are not disadvantaged as a Starbucks branch is literally in front of it, if they’re really desperate for a coffee. There is a real sense that this coffee shop is catered for those who know it’s owners and only open on a part-time basis. Other days it runs like a normal franchise. Coffee Republic is very rich in its coffees and specialises in various coffees taste, which is why it is popular for being especially Italian. The customers that come into Coffee Republic tend to be coffee lovers who love Italian sweets and patisseries who are usually from the adult crowd. You see people reading the FT in here too, so if you like Coffee Republic then go ahead, but be warned that even on a Saturday it might not be accessible to you.
