Cloth House

I was incredibly surprised upon walking into this amazing shop.
Cloth House seems to have anything and everything a budding (or professional) creative, and the selection had me pointing at everything with thoughts of my becoming Martha Stewart.
The layout is comforting and easy to understand. If any of you have been to a shop hunting for buttons, lace, cloth, string, ribbons, etc you will remember the sense of fear when you realise you must discover the random system of sorting.
Cloth house has employees who know their stuff and love what they do, a rare sight.
The prices are higher than its competitors, but you really are paying for great quality and the knowledge of the staff.

This place is so quaint — just looking from the outside, you don’t think a fabric store could ever be this lovely, this darling, this sweet… if you have any remote interest in fabric, you know you have to go in.
Inside are hardwood floors that look like they’ve been there forever, and on the wall to your right are trims and buttons that look like they could be pieces of artwork… ribbons from India, and Russia, and Italy… buttons — antique, metal, delicate, made of shell.
So many wonderful trims! You start picking out things even though you have no idea what you’re going to do with them, but you just *know* that you *must* have them — visions of craft projects and clothing to trim.
THEN you realize the prices, which comes like a cold hard slap. These aren’t cheap trims, these are rather serious bits of haberdashery, you can’t take the whole ribbon kitty home with you… selections must be made with care and vigilance — which sort of makes them all the more precious.
Fabric-​wise… the first floor offers mostly cotton in nice prints. Downstairs is a bevy of more «gentleman» type fabrics… wool for suits and lots of silk, but sort of silk you use to make ties — it’s a rare and wonderful fabric encounter.
The staff here *lives* for fabric… and they’re will to share their knowledge — they’re very kind.
If you’re looking for cheap muslin, this isn’t your place… But if you’re looking for some really breathtaking fabric and trim, and are willing to pay a premium, come here and you’ll be thrilled.

Next to the mother Cloth House based at 98 Berwick Street, more towards Oxford Street you will find all the cottons and weave of Cloth House 47. The shop is fresh and bright and always has an original display.
Unlike to the other Cloth House on Berwick street, there I am always nicely welcomed. Of course the prices are nothing comparable what you could bargain for in Shepherds Bush. However, you know exactly what content the fabric is and you have a deep as well as wide selection.
If you wonder what the big brown paper bags with the art deco face on it is — the brand mark of Cloth House unmistakable!
