We came here on Saturday night for a meal to celebrate a friend’s athletic ability(I just watched her do the triathlon, which was very exhausting for me clearly, so I still deserved a dinner out treat as well). Café Sol sits on the corner of Greenwich village, near the Cutty Sark. It’s wacky and tacky, and the menus are wipe clean, so it’s not for those looking for something super glamorous or fancy. At 7.30pm it was packed out to the max, but they got us a table for 3 in minutes. There are a lot of waiting staff, which means you’ll never have to wait for anything and they are friendly. We ordered chorizo and olive nachos to share for starters. Not many nachos, just tons of sauce. Suits me, Mrs Lover of Condiments, but may not suit others. We trialled some fairly crazy cocktails off the extensive menu(there must be over 50 cocktails available). The mango frozen margarita is a sterling favourite, and the white sangria is lethal but fun. I had chimichangas for my main(is that how you spell it?) and it was a huge portion, and pretty darn tasty. To conclude, is this the real Mexico, hiding in Greenwich? No, absolutely not. Is it fun? Absolutely yes. I would recommend that everyone gives it a whirl, especially if you’re looking for somewhere lively, busy and easy on the credit card.

Started by ordering sangria, ended up with vaguely alcoholic ice. We ordered food and decided to switch to beer so asked the waiter while he cleared the starters, after 15 minutes we asked politely if the beers were on their way, a while later a waiter asked who we’d ordered them from, it was the same waiter who’d actually taken the order for the beer. Food was utterly bland and service slow and unhelpful. Expensive and utterly not work it. For anyone considering giving it a chance… don’t.

As we sat down at this restaurant another customer was complaining about the dirty table. The manager was called over, after they left it seemed to be a source of amusement to the staff. The food wasn’t good at all except for the nachos. The ribs were just awful. The other Mexican food was barely acceptable. The bathrooms were filthy.

I am quite shocked at all the bad reviews! My family, friends and i go to Café Sol for every birthday, and on random nights out and we absolutely LOVEIT! The manager and staff have never been anything but friendly and helpful. The Pirri Pirri prawns are to die for and so is everything else on their menu. I should know, iv tried it all!!!

Popped in here with a friend last week and was really really disappointed by this place. The food wasn’t great at all, the staff were nice but the service was poor. The ribs, calamari and nachos were our starters and quite frankly were quite bland. We then shared a Main course of steak and shrimp fajitas which was again very bland and quite greasy/lily. Overall I was really disappointed as I am a huge fan of Mexican food but this wasn’t an experience which will make me come back.

I was not impressed with this place based on the quality of its ‘Mexican’ food and the overly cheesiness of the décor. For those of you from California, this is akin to the décor of Chevys complete… very bright colors and loud. However the food… This is so not Mexican food! I had the veggie fajitas which were the furthest from Mexican AND tasty as possible. Super oily and not a good flavor. Hubby had the chicken burrito which he seemed ok with it. The mother in law had the veggie quesadilla which seemed ok again but not the flavors expected with Mexican food. Service was Ok – i doubt I’ll go back here again.

Very decent Mexican food. The food and service were both great. Everyone at the table tried different things and all seemed satisfied. Prices not too bad either.

Awful. The farthest you could get from Mexico. The menu is as confused as Dale Winton with odd options like potato skins and garlic bread. Chicken nachos were soggy and limp with the same«shredded chicken» mix used for the nachos, burritos, tacos… you get the picture. Burrito with chilli beef was disgusting. The filling tasted weird. Guacamole not home made. The biggest joke were the taquitos. They were more like spring rolls. Well, actually they were spring rolls. Shocking, overcooked, dry, lifeless, flavourless cardboard. Lazy, corner cutting cooking at its finest. It is very clear that the chef isnt Mexican because if a Mexican chef sent out food like that he would be shot. Service was indifferent. Our waiter decided to accidentally dip his finger into the sour cream and smear it all round the burrito plate. Sloppy. Avoid.

This place surprised me, as at first it looked like one of the classic tourist traps at Greenwich. But the prices are rather reasonable, and the portions surprisingly big. The burrito mains are enough for two! The surprise was that the food actually was rather tasty. The London Insider

Meh. I love Mexican food, and this place provided it in decent quality, but it was rather pricey. The service was friendly but terribly slow(especially as the place was half full). I wouldn’t say no to it again, but I wouldn’t seek it out either.

For the last decade, on my occasional wanderings into Greenwich, I have walked past this place with its prime spot in the heart of Greenwich and wondered if it was any good. Now I have been and now I know. It’s ok. Reasonable food, reasonably priced. You won’t offend anyone but you won’t amaze them either.

Good Mexican, cheap, with a very good tacos and a lot of cocktails(tequila, margarita …). Just one negative point: the restaurant is a little bit noisy.

I really like Mexican food, but I didn’t like what I got at Café Sol. The food was below average. Cocktails were ok and the restaurant has a nice décor. The manager was quite rude to his waitress. I felt so sorry for her that I don’t go there anymore.

I’m a Californian living in London and am always on the look out for acceptable Mexican food. I had avoided this place for a long time because I thought it was touristy and cheesy and that the food would be horrible. But I really wanted Mexican food on my birthday and didn’t feel like travelling into London(not that there’s spectacular Mexican food anywhere in this city). So I had a margarita and made a go for it. Don’t get me wrong, the place is definitely cheesy, but at night it’s not touristy at all — most people seemed to live in the area. I had the fajitas and they were actually pretty good. I saw some of the other food and I personally would stick with fajitas at any Mexican restaurant when in doubt, but the burrito my partner ordered was OK. Their margaritas aren’t bad either. You’re not going to have an out of body experience at Café Sol but I recommend it for a night out or to get your Mexican food fix.

I’ve been here a few times with some friends. The food is great and they have good South American music. They have really nice cocktails too.

my sister used to always go on about this restaurant so i thought i would have to give it a try, and we not disappointed. we went here on a busy Saturday night and had some sizzling meals and cocktails which were all pretty nice. not the cheapest of places to eat in Greenwich but definitely one of the quality ones. If you like this style of food then i would definitely recommend it. Would like it if they had a few more normal cocktails as the selection was a little limited. Have not really been back since, and are not planning to soon, this is more suited for big groups of people for a great fun night, rather than couples.

Came here late last night and I’m always impressed with their food. They were just about to close the kitchen when we arrived but they were fine with us coming in. Despite this being a mexican place, they do a brilliant steak so I always have this. But mine was covered in chilli sauce which was yummy. Although the boyfriend kept stealing it. Grrrr Our starter was a little tiny — four prawns on a skewer, now, I know I was sharing it, but I think for £5 you’d want something more substantial even just for one person. The waitresses were polite, and tried to hide their annoyance that they weren’t going to get to leave early. I was a tiny roll of the eye as were ordered two more frozen margs, but they did try and hide this pretty well. I can understand where they were coming from, and they didn’t try and push us out, but they were as efficient as they possibly could be without seeming rude! It doens’t have that special something to be a five star place. They do have lunch specials in the week though and i probably spend more time in here than most places in Greenwich. But £50 for a great dinner for two with four cocktails is a pretty good bargain in my book. I’ll be back. Again and again.

This Mexican restaurant is by far the best restaurant in Greenwich in terms of good food, value for money, atmosphere and fantastic Frozen Strawberry Margharita’s! The atmosphere is extremely mexican with sombrero’s on the walls, mexican music playing and fajita’s everywhere! They have an excellent cocktail menu with Frozen Margharita’s being their highlight and coming in many flavours: mango, strawberry, banana. Strawberry is the best though! They also have a great menu for Vegetarian’s including Vegetarian fajita’s and enchillada’s. It’s such a nice change to have more than one veggie option on the menu!

Great place, especially for large groups of people. The food is great, service is good — however, it is a little expensive but the atmosphere makes up for this. Waiting for a table is quite common, but this just shows how popular the place is. Friendly staff, good food, fantastic margaritas — what more could you want?
