Burlington Bertie’s is the fancy dress store from which a mould of all other fancy dress stores should be cut. The busy, costume-clad aisles and the plethora of face make ups, gaudy jewellery and plastic body parts mixes well with the eerie aroma of Halloween nights and parties gone by. Oh, and the friendly, knowledgeable staff members are offset perfectly by the grotesque masks peeking at you from every corner. This is a mom-and-pop store with years of experience under the belt, and one of those unique places in London where you feel like you could just pop in to have a gander; or ask one of the staff members for any kind of ghostly or ghoulish requirement. As a result, it’s probably also one of those few places in modern society where you’ll hear the statement: «I’m sorry sir, we’re fresh out of bat wings. But we’re getting Troll warts in next week!»
