Buffalo Bar

A great little venue/​bar. Drinks a bit above average but not too expensive.
I came on a Friday, and thoroughly enjoyed the Indie music which were being played.
The place is very small, but has great atmosphere. Plus point is that it’s just right next to the station. Downside is that it doesn’t accept credit cards. Cash only when i was there.

Por dios! que gran descubrimiento. Valió la pena patearse todo el Este para llegar a este bar y descubrir su esencia. Por 6 libras entramos en un bar con un ambiente muy oscuro y rojizo que tenia un gran espacio y sillones para poder disfrutar de la música. Bastante amplio lo que permitía que cada vez que llegaba gente, ésta, se repartía por todas las zonas y no daba la sensación de agobio ni nada. Desde las 9 de la noche que estuvimos allí pudimos disfrutar de una sesión de música genial, tomarnos unas cervezas por 3,5 libras cada una y sobre las 11.30 disfrutar de un concierto increíble, que tuvo de duración una hora y nos descubrió un grupo japonés genial!!! La verdad que se nota que el Este está siendo el mejor lugar para descubrir los sitios más punteros y donde ahora mismo la cosa está en ebullición en Londres.

The Buffalo bar has a bit of a fond place in my heart. I came to see one of my first gigs in London (Elle Milano, just as bands like Art Brut were popping up). As such it’s got a fantastic memory attached. But regardless, as others have said, it’s a wholly unpretentious place, (if with drinks slightly above average) which si the perfect sort of space to see such music.

Worth waiting four weeks at a time for this one it is a right laugh. Camp as christmas but full of a good crowd who are only interested in having a good time, a dance, and a singalong.

Monday nights authentic cuban salsa classes followed by club. Perfect location 30 seconds from the tube. Only problem is it’s on a monday and i have to work.

This is a nice downstairs live music venue. I’ve seen some great bands here including the Duloks, the Low Edges, Gyratory System and violet violet. Sometimes it’s almost empty, sometimes it’s crowded (and there’s not much seating, so consider using the coatcheck upstairs). Atmospheric lighting and décor plus a good sound system, and it’s right by Highbury and Islington tube.

Im not keen on this place. Went the other week. I had been meaning to go for ages after hearing that its open until 4am. The staff seemed polite but — it was absolutley packed and the crowd was a late 20s rude, attitudey casual indie crowd. People pushed past every single second and there was literally hardly any room to stand. Drink prices average, with bands playing frequently. We left early and went to the cheap wetherspoons around the corner!

First went to the Buffalo Bar (downstairs from the Famous Cock Tavern pub, right next to Highbury and Islington station) for Guided Missile club on Saturday night and had an amazing time. The crowd is really friendly and unpretentious and the music is fantastic — MGMT, Pulp, Art Brut, Chalets. They serve a good selection of drinks including loads of different flavoured vodka shots. Other club nights here include Artrocker and Crimes Against Pop, two which I’m going to check out soon. Highly recommended.

I have visited the Buffalo Bar music venue in Highbury and Islington on several occasions now, and each time I’ve left feeling frustrated and fleeced. This isn’t to say that they’re doing a bad job as such; drinks are typically average in choice and price for this kind of «underground» (in the «scene» sense and the literal definition), ranging from bottles (no pints) of Asahi to Budvar at £3 a pop, and Jack Daniel’s to Captain Morgan’s (my least favourite rum); and the service is pleasant and charismatic enough.
However, I dare to say that I think I’m growing too old for these places, the ceiling’s too low, it’s far too dark, and if you go to a gig on a busy night – due to the lay out – there will be very little chance of actually getting to see the bands. In spite of this, the ambit of night’s that frequent the Buffalo Bar are varied and well chosen enough to often remain exciting and entertaining enough to draw me back there. The Buffalo Bar isn’t my favourite place in the world, but maybe I’m just turning into an old «fuddy-​duddy»; after all it does function well for what is.

The bar staff are really good fun (apart from the bouncers, obviously, who can be fairly horrible — butthey’re bouncers!). The live music nights that take place here on a regular basis are cheap enough and often ace (Guided Missile and Big City Redneck are both ones to watch), as are the concerts that are more random one offs, and the after concert dancing is often mental as the place fills up with people that got lost on the way to the tube and fancy a boogie, as well as those that have been inside all night sampling rhubarb & custard shooters or trying to get drunk on baileys. And of course it’s right next to the tube so no missing the main act to get home.

It’s a good place to see new bands (indie rock mostly). Friendly atmosphere. I thought the doormen where kind of gruff, but I guess it comes with the territory.

Upper Street is full of great places to eat, shop and hang out. If you walk a little further towards Highbury & Islington station, you’ll find The Buffalo Bar tucked neatly beside the tube station.
The Buffalo Bar has gained a reputation for being the venue to go to if you want to experience the best of the indie scene. Some of their club nights have been running for years and they attract all sorts of music lovers young and old.
The venue itself is pretty small and snug. There is plenty of seating and the stage is place right in the middle (this later turns into a dance floor). I like the fact it’s not that big and daunting. I’ve seen some great bands at The Buffalo Bar. Some of the club nights are also pretty fun, not pretentious and the club just has a really nice homely vibe.
The saving grace is that the tube is a 10 second walk, quite literally, from the venue. If you’re a music fan and you’ve not visited this venue yet, you should, it’s one of the most important indie venues in London in my opinion.

The Buffalo bar is a gem of a venue, that has grown in stature over the years. Not only does it have good sound, a must for any music venue, but the intimacy it provides, makes for a perfect way to see your favourite act. The blood red walls, loungers and dim lighting aid the ambiance perfectly.
The music is diverse and could be anything from Indie to country or electronica, with regular club nights bringing their own styles.
Regularly packed, in a venue which holds approximately 150 people, you can expect a sweat filled evening of entertainment, especially once you lubricate your senses with japenese whiskey, flavoured vodka shots and five different types of rum, very rock ‘n’ roll! And all served by efficient, no nonsense and knowledgeable bar staff.
Keep a regular eye on the place, because secret gigs also occur, you wouldn’t want to miss out.
