Just a simple and normal museum shop. Went there to find some books but there is nothing much… Good for tourists and visitor but not a great bookshop !

I was a big sucker for museum gift shops as a kid, and have mostly grown out of that… but this one is a winner. Chock-full of beautiful books, including cloth-bound classics and novel companion art, it’s intoxicating. I wanted to buy everything, and had to remind myself of my limited luggage capacity. My favorite purchase was a fantastic artsy postcard. Their postcard selection is not to be missed.

What better way to end a lovely afternoon of browsing through one of the world’s greatest libraries — lingering over fragments of the original Jane Eyre, Canterbury Tales and the Magna Carta — than to pick up a few little trinkets that pay homage to those very works? I have a fondness for centuries-old maps, and this shop had more than enough postcards and books devoted to them to sate my cravings. My favorite item purchased, though, was a cover for my Tube pass with a black-and-white illustration from Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures Under Ground, the original text of which can also be found in this magnificent library. Certainly a must-visit if you enjoyed the exhibits, or if you’re simply a bibliophile at heart.
