A great place to talk to knowledgeable wine merchants as well as do a bit of tasting(albeit a bit difficult to do so effectively when the temperatures really drop — but they’ll still happily oblige). The stall has a decent, if not enormous, collection… and there are some bargains to be had if you’re buying more than one bottle since they offer various types of discounts on multi-purchases. Once the Christmas season rolls around you can’t help but stop here for a steaming cup of mulled wine… happy holidays for a mere £3! But what I probably like best about this place is that they sell wine from the barrel(usually they have a red and a white on tap, but sometimes rose). Once you’ve purchased your glass litre bottle, you can come back to the market to fill it up again and again. Definitely ask to taste what they’re dispensing first, since it’s not always fantastic, but still, I’m in love with concept… it just feels so old-fashioned and rustic… like it’s what one would do if you lived in the countryside of 19th century Provence or Liguria or such…
