I had high hopes for Blue River Café, nicely placed just next to my work bus stop, I thought it would be a perfect place to pop in for a quick bite before heading into the office. It’s quietly tucked away, so out of the noise and bustle of Kings Cross, and the staff were very welcoming. Sadly, the thing which really let it down was the food. I asked for a Full English, minus mushrooms and tomatoes, and wasn’t offered the chance to substitute anything for the removed items. When the meal arrived, it was quite plain that the quality of the produce used was quite plain, leading to a distinct lack of flavour and texture. The sausages were mealy, rather than meaty, the bacon was flat and lifeless, the hash browns had a chemical aftertaste, and the whole experience was really quite underwhelming. Please, Blue River, use some decent ingredients, and I’ll be happy to come back as a regular visitor. Until then, I’m afraid I’m trying elsewhere.

Me and my boyfriend visit this sweet little café regularly. Cheap, cheerful and you get a standard greasy spoon. Very happy to give my business to this place. They play great 50’s music too!
