Formerly, known as The Coffee Hatch, Blacksmiths continues where that operation left off serving coffee to commuters near to London Bridge through a hatch on Bermondsey Street. There is nowhere to hide in this enivronment with no WiFi or other creature comforts to draw the crowds — either the coffee is good and the commuters will come or the coffee is poor at the hatch will look rather sad with no-one to serve. Fortunately, the coffee is great. I always seem to opt for the Macchiato. Made with Square Mile beans, this is delicious and sets me up well for the day ahead. The hours can be a bit erratic but if you are passing by and it is open, don’t miss the opportunity to sample one of London’s better coffee options.
