Blackheath is lovely! especially if you happen to catch it on a sunny day. Blackheath is big green lawn mowered open space, with a pretty church on the heath to match. If you do catch it on a summers day, you will see children flying kites and ice cream vans about as well. Its definitely good for picnics as well. I also heard they have one of the best fireworks displays in London around the bonfire celebrations. Before the Heath you will see, cafes restaurants and delis. Blackheath is upmarket, I swear I only saw one chain which was Greggs. If you want, from the Heath you can go to the Royal Observatory museum and because its on a hill you can see fantastic views of London. This is about 15min walk depending on leg speed. It very rare for me to be in this part of town, but when I go again ill stop by again.

I’ll focus mainly on the heath itself as this would turn out to be a review of some considerable length if I incorporate the whole inner suburban village of Blackheath. The heath is really nice. Not much to it, just big patches of grass but still really nice. A spired church is the only building upon the heath and even that’s right in a corner. A nice place to visit in the warm months with it’s grassy loveliness and even in the cold months the heath holds a haunting beauty, especially at night. It can get a bit breezy though. When one is in the town streets it’s easy to forget you’re still in London. Blackheath looks and feels like a separate village to the rest of the city but in fact, from the heath, you’ll be about a 20 – 30 minute walk to the East of Greenwich(technically, Blackheath is in Greenwich AND Lewisham). I enjoy visiting Blackheath, a beautiful place and a number of delightful and pleasing café’s, pubs, shops etc. Just try to forget about the untold numbers of the dead beneath your feet. TTFN, Ian

Sometimes you just need to get out of central london, and Blackheath is the perfect place to go if you want big open space and some great local shops. The heath is a great picnic spot and is just past some deli and café shops from the rail station so you can pick up some good grub on the way. There’s a host of bars around the edges and even a nice little microbrewery! It’s a great family spot and a nice place to catch some rays. Bring a blanket and a few friends and soak in the peaceful outskirts of the city, just 12 min from London Bridge.

Blackheath is a beautifully large, open expanse of grass that sits between Greenwich and Lewisham. In summer it is a haven for people to relax in the sun or partake in activities. It is believed the name of the heath derived from its use as a burial ground for those who perished with the plague in the 1600s. If you want somewhere to relax in the sun and you are in the area it is a great place. The Prince of Wales pub on the heath provides plastic glasses so you can drink outside. If you need further refreshments Blackheath Village is very charming.
