Very over priced Italian with pretty aveage food, small portions and an uninspiring menu. Desipte advertisment outside offering pizza, these were unavailable. Stale bread with terrible quality oil served to start, followed by a small portion of passable meatballs with a dull tomato sauce. Chicken was decent but served on a well overcooked and stodgy risotto — seemed expensive at 16. Total for two mains, no drinks and two unsatisfied customers: £35

I live not from this particular restarant Bianco Nero. It is decorated exactly in this way black and white, a cool, contemporary modern Italian that looks like it belongs in Milan rather than London. Once inside, I was quickly furnished with a glass of chilled New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and some excellent, airy Focacci. Our main courses were pretty cool too, and we had some traditional northern Italian dishes like Florentine Ribollita(Bread and Cavalo Nero soup) with innovative starter of tender calamari with a sensationally pleasant tasting silky, sweet and sour red pepper sorbet. Equally good were the pearly scallops with a generous dollop celeriac mayonnaise. The red wine risotto was headily savoury, spiked with the bitter punch of radicchio; and I loved my perfectly al dente Conchigliette smothered in Italian Sausage and Broccoli in tomato sauce. The place was bustling the locals from Hammersmith and Chiswick keep it busy knowing that this is a real gem on their doorstep. The service was attentive without being snotty or pretentious. The fact that Bianco Nero is such a chilled, attractive place to hang out is a triumph and well worth a trek into west London.
