This may sound like an advert for a Bounty chocolate bar but there really is a tropical paradise waiting for you in the midst of the Barbican. Quiet, peaceful and relatively unknown as it’s only open on Sundays. On the other 6 days it can be hired out for rather unique events. Can’t afford to elope to the Amazon for your wedding? Try this instead, although I suspect this venue may cost more. The garden is full to the brim with beautiful plants and houses fish and birds. I was transported to the rainforest listening to the rain hit the glass roof in the middle of London summer thunder storm. A secret London oasis … maybe I shouldn’t be Unilocaling about this one!

There’s a little hidden treasure in the heart of the Barbican called the conservatory. It’s actually a secret best kept. Under a glass roof are housed an unbelievable assortment of tropical plants and birds and a pond with beautiful fish. The space is used for private bookings and therefore is only open to the public on Sundays and bank holidays. Not many people know about this place. The Barbican itself is a bit of a white elephant at times, which I quite enjoy. More space per person in London is rare so I’m probably not going to encourage you to go.
