In keeping with the recent trend for all things healthy in and around the city Battu served up natural, organic wines which is great in my opinion. it means my healthy friends have no excuse when I try to get them to get drunk with me in future.

My go to in the city if I am looking for a quick meal out at short notice. Te venue is split in two with the front being a wine bar which is usually quiet early in the week and busier towards the end. The back is a restaurant serving French bistro fare at reasonable prices. Upstairs there is more seating which, I think, used for private functions or events. What ties Bar Battu together is its wine list focussing on natural wines which amusingly classifies its wines according the wildness — trying a ‘really wild’ wine is an experience — sometimes good, sometimes weird, always wild! The mark ups on the bottles are not too bad give the city location though obviously Bar Battu is not the cheapest place for a drink(wine or otherwise). As for the food, I have enjoyed the lamb breast(same cut as pork belly) which was served attractively on the plate as a spiral. It was fully of powerful punchy lamb flavours and would be a good choice on a cold day. However, on another occasion the steak with ‘Pont Neuf’ potatoes was less successful. Although the steak and the sauce which accompanied it were well made, the Potatoes were a little under cooked. Still, this is a relatively small complaint and I have returned since and will no doubt continue to return.

We came here as a group for drinks before dinner. Bar Battu has a small nook in the front of the restaurant where we had a couple bottles of wine and apps setup. The décor was nice, the drinks were reasonably priced and the small selection of apps we had were tasty(included the standard cheese, cured meats, jam, croquets, chips, etc.). It wasn’t overly busy on a Friday night and there wasn’t really anything that blew me away. The venue is more tailored for the restaurant than it is for social drinking.

Great little place, still going through its soft opening. Had a nice boudin noir(black pudding) with calvados and roasted apples. It’s nice that while it is in the City, it wasn’t too noisy on the Thursday I visited, even though it is billed as both a wine bar and a restaurant. They are still having very small teething problems, like needing different people to translate different dishes, but every plate that people in my party of four ordered was exceptional.
