The home of many Christmas parties I have been to, The Banana Store is a great hidden treasure. To find it, you must do a quick reach-around when you get to Borough market and descend the steep staircase… a nightmare if you(or more than frequently for me, somebody you are trying to help to the door) are a little inebriated! The interior is well styled and well thought out. Naturally divided into areas separated by the bar and pillars, it is a great place to mingle between many different factions of friends. The choice of drinks is very good. All of my favourite spirits are always easily conjured up, and regular staple drinks are abundant too. One point of note is that the Gent’s toilets are TINY! A rare occurrence of having to queue, which for a man is unheard of! Having never knowingly(my memory gets hazy when I drink) been in the Women’s toilets, I don’t know if this follows suit! Having only ever been here for private events, I am a little unsure of whether you can just rock up and pile in of a Friday night. Nonetheless, it is a great place and I always look forward to returning!

We tried the Eat What You See deal last Saturday, turning up with a huge Dourade fish(no, me neither) to see what the chef could do. It took a while to come but my god, was it worth it? It came beautifully cooked with fresh herbs and spices, with couscous and vegetables on a huge silver platter — the taste was absolutely sublime. It was a bit pricey in the end, but really was one of the best fish meals I’ve had in a long time. Thoroughly recommended as a romantic way to spend a Saturday afternoon — we rolled out of there.

This is(was) the best kept secret in Borough Market. Words can’t begin to describe the rush of euphoria I get when bringing in my freshly bought produce from the stalls for the diligent chef to slice, dice and serve to my stomach’s content! It really is as simple as that, grab a handful of freaky looking exotic mushrooms, a bagful of chompworthy oysters, a slice of mild gouda, whatever you fancy and they will cook what you choose on the premises. This offer is available on Saturday only between 11am — 4pm for £10 a head. If you can’t be bothered to fumble through the stalls in search of edible ecstasy, why not choose from their sumptuous menu starting from £12.50 for two courses, which in my opinion is one of the best deals in town considering the quality of ingredients, endearing ambiance of the place and its affable staff. Think devilish prawns, think tender steak, think munchsome pak choi! Is it Saturday yet? I know where I’ll be! Video link:
