Another restaurant that works with tastecard. We really enjoyed the food and service. Touch wood let it carry on.

I’ve been to this restaurant many times and have not been disappointed. In busy times it does take a bit longer to get your food. But that’s to be expected for any busy restaurant.

Just because it is a chain shouldn’t mean that it is lousy. Unfortunately it is. Each time I have either eaten here or tried to arrange a take away I have come away feeling anxious, perturbed and ever so slightly sad.

We tried to get in to this restaurant a few months ago at around 6.30 on a Sunday. It was heaving, lots of families with kids, and food on the floor. After queuing for a while, we were taken to a table in a corner well away from where any service staff would pass regularly. After 10 minutes we had not even been offered a drink, so got up and left. A couple nearby who had been there before us suffered the same fate, but were still sitting there(without service) when we left.

Ask is a chain of mid-market Italian/Pizza places — posher than Pizza Hut, but nevertheless a chain. They specialise a bit in pasta than does Pizza Express, but the chains are not dissimilar. Just before Christmas, I took my teenaged daughter here for a mother/daughter bonding session. We had garlic pita bread to start. Daughter had pasta, I had the Christmas special pizza, which thankfully did not have turkey! Instead, it had a selection of Italian meats, mushrooms, onions, and I added chilli and rocket to substitute for the olives and spinach(the chillis were a mistake — too strong for the pizza). Daughter had milk(yes, milk), I had two glasses of red wine. The bill came to around £40 in total. The food was good. You’re not going to be raving about this and telling all and sundry, but they use decent ingredients, and the formula works well. The style of food is southern Italian, so expect pizzas and pastas with cheese and tomatoes, rather than the more delicate veals and chickens of northern Italy. The service was friendly and efficient. The tables are a wee bit close together, but not grossly so. The services, as typical in these chains, are hard, so it can get somewhat noisy. This is a good chain. It is suitable for families and business lunches, though I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for a romantic dinner for two.
