This little hotel is tiny. It’s also wonderfully convenient as it’s merely a block and a half away from Paddington Station. Underground, transport from LHR all equated to minimal hassle and easy arrival at the hotel. The hotel is located next to an Italian restaurant that gives you a discount if you dine with them during your stay. So this hotel is a bit narrow and old. Needless to say, I thought of it as a sketchy hotel but my British friends assured me that it was a perfectly average British B&B/Hotel. Still so sketchy to me. The bed was quite uncomfortable. It was lumpy and springs were broken on my side. I had to switch with the bf to nab his side. The room had an odd funky smell so we would air out the room by opening the window. Then we find out that people would smoke under and the smoke would waft into the room and make me sick. The bathroom, though tiny, was adequate. The sink wouldn’t drain the water fast enough so you would get a building pool while washing your face. The tub was deeper than American tubs and so getting out of one… let’s just say I had some major bruises on my legs. The front desk was nice if distracted. They took a bit of time to acknowledge we were there and I had to wait ages to give them the key since we couldn’t take it with us. I don’t think I’ll be staying here again despite the ultra convenient location.

The Ascot Hotel in Paddington, London is a cheap hotel very conveniently located right next door to the station. You can get there in a short 4min walk. Being in Paddington means the hotel has some great transport links, with 4 underground lines and buses running into central London very frequently, you can be in oxford street in about 15−20mins. However, it is downhill from here. Although the location is great, the hotel clearly shows it wear and tear. The carpet had some water stains, the walls had dents in them, one of the lights did not work, the door numbers on some of the doors were missing and were drawn on with a pen! The building is also rather old so you can hear people walking around in the morning to wake you up, also we had some noisy neighbours and I could hear them talking throughout the evening. This kind of hotel does not really deserve any star status, infact I am sure it is a non star rated hotel! However, you get what you pay for. At around £29 a night, it still seems on the steep side, you are much better off getting a room at Travelodge if you are in need of a cheap place to stay, just make sure you book in advance to get a room there for between £19-£29. I will give this place 2⁄5 purely on its location, also it is just about adequate if you are perhaps staying there for just 1 night.
