Grantham isn’t exactly the culinary hotspot of the UK, so putting restaurants in perspective is important in managing expectations. A couple of complaints: not being able to enter from the George Shopping Centre to the other entrance(more important when you cannot find parking nearby), service is not consistent, and the draft from the entrance… even when you are a good distance away from the door. Other than that, I have to say this experience was pretty good! Work BFF and I were out for dinner and a movie… we are coming to the end of our work contracts so spending time together is important now since she’ll be headed to Oz and I’ll be headed back to the US of A. Ask is kind of our go to restaurant when we haven’t thought to call ahead for reservations anywhere else and also because they usually have some kind of offer on meals. Unfortunately my starter was the only thing I wanted off of the 2 course set meal, so I splurged a few more quid for the starter and a main that wasn’t on the set meal menu. I had the Asparagus with Prosciutto to start and the Risotto Verde. Work BFF had the Chef Salad. The Asparagus came out and was absolutely delicious, but the presentation needs some work because it looked like a hot mess. Cheese and olive oil everywhere! Our mains were delicious, so delicious we cleaned our plates(well Work BFF had some red onions and a piece of prosciutto left). The Chef Salad is almost like an antipasto platter served over lettuce. It looked lovely and it must have been good because Work BFF has a delicate palate(in other words she is picky…). The Risotto Verde had green beans, broad beans, artichokes, spinach, and zucchini(courgette if you are British) and it was absolutely fantastic! Some days I think I could be a vegetarian! It was creamy, there were loads of veggies, especially the artichokes, which a lot of places skimp on, and it was filling.

Great Italian food! My parents and I go to ASK! every time I visit them in the UK. I hadn’t been inside the Grantham location in over a year and was pleasantly surprised on my visit last month. They’ve completely remodeled the place and it looks fabulous. The menu has also changed a bit, but the food was as tasty as ever. The eggplant parmigiana is to die for. I’ve had most of the salads there, which have been delicious as well. My parents always go for spaghetti bolognese or pizza(they’ve never complained!) They used to have a tuna pasta(that’s no longer on the menu) that was amazing. The atmosphere is nice inside the restaurant. Unlike many of the places to eat in Europe, you don’t feel cramped at Ask! Good coffee is hard(at least for me) to find in England. I found it at ask. A nice piece of chocolate cake for desert, finished off with a cup of coffee… I’m in heaven just thinking about it. The only reason Ask! didn’t receive 5 stars from me was because of the service. the girls are polite and attentive, but aren’t overly friendly. That being said, I hardly notice the service, because my brain is too busy focusing on the amazing flavors of the food that I’m savoring in my mouth.

Nice chain restaurant in a beautiful setting offering delicious cuisine. The one time I went there, the service was ridiculously slow but the staff were sweet and apologetic. The delicious pizzas and salads totally made up for the wait though! The location is the George Centre, a gorgeous old building converted into a somewhat deserted shopping mall. I would definitely go to Ask again.
