I have to hand it to Timberland — for a global corporation they have better environmental credentials and ethics than most of their contemporaries. They use salvaged and sustainable timber to build their shelving and store layouts and when ever possible they use recycled materials from the local area to decorate them. They also use recycled and renewable components in their footwear, encourage their staff to think green and help build community gardens. Oh and they’re in the process of becoming carbon neutral. All of the above encouraged me to go in their store and check out their products. Unfortunately, when I did I found… I still didn’t like any of it. The boots and shoes look like they belong on a building site or rockface rather than a beach and the clothes fall somewhere between horribly practical and frumpy. Sorry, guys.
