Weatherspoon is such a reliable chain. Food is served fairly quickly at prices that you can afford. I had the hot dog which was lovely but the chips were a miss I’m afraid — the festive gingerbread latte was lovely

A very large and very busy pub, right smack in tourist central. There are several TVs, which were tuned to BBC News, slot machines, and numerous tables, ranging from two tops to large booths. Pretty much any drink you could want is available, with a large selection of cask ales. I didn’t try the food, but the prices are certainly reasonable, with specials mostly days. Family atmosphere, everyone from infants to seniors during the afternoon. Very reasonable drink prices, some ales priced under £3. Much less expensive than neighbouring pubs.

We stopped at the Welkin which is part of the Wetherspoons chain. They have cheap drinks and food. We had just eaten so we just ordered a round of drinks before moving on the the Cavern Club. There are TVs and lots of seating. The bartenders really work hard for your money and the pints are poured fast. Great place to meet up with a group. There is seating upstairs and downstairs. I think we spent about 20 minutes here before moving on.

It’s a Wetherspoon, friendly staff and cheap food/drinks, but that’s about it. Plenty of other good(and more lively) bars near by.

Standardization can never be a good thing. It’s choking creativity. it’s denying the essence of being. I can rarely be found venturing anywhere near the dreaded Wetherspoons of this world. You see these are establishments that you relish as a student with little money and little choice. At that moment in time in your life this is the place to be. Believe me I have spent many a occasions merrily relishing the place as a safe haven for meet up drinks. With time however I have got to realize the error of my past ways. It is poor this place I tell thee. First of all, you get what you pay for anywhere, and there is a reason the place is cheap. It is just pants, I mean that’s the word that pops into my head. It’s dirty, the people in there smell for some reason unknown to me. Every time I have been here and made the mistake of opting to purchase a beverage where ever I have waited I have been confronted with the most hideous waft of BO unimaginable. You see that right there is a moment frozen in time for me, a moment which I am actually fairly proud of. Why? Well because I turned around at that precise moment in time, grabbed my friend and said we’re leaving. The only reason we ever went near the place was because she had insisted she was rather tired and the place happened to be the next one we ventured past. Now you see there was a time when such things I would have laughed off. But as I said once you get into the disposable income market niche and monetary factors do not determine your choice of restaurant/bar, you realize that you’d actually rather not drink from a half clean glass while your elbows gather grease from a table. I urge you to find a better place because this one is just short of being an absolute hole. You’re in Liverpool for God’s sake there are plenty of much better drinking wells. Walk past, I tell you! Wish places like these had a DONOTENTER sign!!!

The Welkin is situated in the heart of Liverpool City Centre. As part of the Wetherspoons chain you know what to expect here. The pub is quite large. On the ground floor there is a large area of tables and chairs and then upstairs there is the same but also booth type seating which is great for small groups, There is a large bar downstairs and a smaller one upstairs which opens during busier times. The bar is well stocked, having many offers on at any one time. They have a good selection of lagers on tap, plus many bottled beers. They also have a large selection of spirits, wine but the bottle or glass, alcopops, ciders, shots and much more. The drinks are reasonably priced considering the city centre location. The staff are welcoming and friendly and work hard to serve you as quickly as possible. They have a good knowledge of the drinks available and are happy to advise or recommend something for you The pub has a good atmosphere. People of all styles, ages and backgrounds can be found in the Welkin. Its an excellent place for a work night out as it will suit all types of people. It can get a bit crowded in the evenings but if you find yourself a booth or a corner to stand in then you can be comfortable. .

I’m usually a fan of ‘Spoons with it’s cheap but cheerful drinks and menu — it may not be the best quality all the time but it does the job. However, this branch is not my favourite. I’ve been in a few times when I’ve wanted to stop for something to eat whilst in town and I’ve been disappointed most times. The tables never seem to be cleaned or even cleared of glasses for that matter, everything is extremely ‘sticky’. I stood at the bar for over 15 minutes waiting to be served, I wouldn’t have minded if they were particularly busy but they seemed too busy chatting to really even notice me. Everytime I have ordered food it has arrived cold and nowhere near as nice as the same dishes ordered in a different Wetherspoons. Having said this, it does always seem to have regular custom but I think this is probably more to do with the brand name than the quality of food, or service.

You will hear people tell you that all Wetherspoons are just the same and while they’re right on one level — they all have the same menu of reheated bar snacks and pretty much the same selection of beers, wines and spririts — this isn’t the whole story. Where they are located, who the locals are, what the staff are like, all of it adds up to make each Wetherspoons a different animal. They’re never going to be the best or coolest bars and frequently they’re absolute dives but occasionally the exact balance of friendly staff, good crisp flavours and a playlist of forgotten classics(«is this shaka demus and pliers ‘tease me’?) can align and Wetherspoons can actually end up being the site of a pretty good night out. The Welkin is just such a Wetherspoons. There’s nothing particularly special about it, outside it has some tall windows and some chairs and tables inside it has a bar, some more seats and tables and toilets Maybe it’s its proximity to Mathew Street; maybe it’s the mix of day trippers, students and locals; maybe it’s that it offers the cheapest pints in the centre of Liverpool; maybe it’s all of these things but you could do a lot worse than try a drink at The Welkin.

Wetherspoon: The Welkin situated adjacent to HSBC in Liverpool’s city centre is a wonderful place to go with family and friends as it’s a casual bar/restaurant where you can enjoy a wide variety of drinks and dishes that include all your traditional English meals. The restaurant seating layout makes it ideal for groups and there are also extra seats upstairs with a TV screen so it is quite a social atmosphere. My favourite thing to eat has to be the full English large breakfast served daily until 12pm! This includes 2 eggs, 2 sausages, 2 toasts, baked beans, rashers of bacon, a couple of half a grilled tomatoes, wild mushroom and a couple of deep fried hash browns(delicious)! All this will only cost you £3.79 and for the amount of food you get, it is definitely value for money. The only downfall with this particular Wetherspoon is that I was given burnt toast on several occasions even when I asked for it to be lightly toasted. Well, I guess it did not matter to me too much as I still ended up with a full stomach!
