Who-ever gave Tesco permission to convert this former bank into a Tesco Express should be hanging their head in shame. Not only does it look completely out of place with its corporate logo and cheap promotional offers in such a lovely building but the company is completely at odds with the remaining independent and fairtrade businesses on Bold Street. To add insult to injury, the shop itself is ugly and badly laid out. There’s fridges offering anemic looking sandwiches, salads and snacks in plastic wrapping and aisles of not-so-essential everyday items. I clearly wasn’t the only one that felt like this as I saw a few other customers leaving empty handed too. Shame, shame, shame.

Totally agree with Elliot on this one. Encroaching on the top end of Bold Street, opposite what was(focus on the was) a quaint little fruit and veg stall. Gutted the Bold Street anti-Tesco petition didn’t work. Boo. But at least for now, Hope Street is Superstore free. You can’t even count on two hands the Tescos in a mile radius of the town centre there are so many… they’re taking over the world one«every little helps» at a time. Ergh. However, the only thing Tesco Express has going for it is convenience as the prices are pretty high in here. That word has broken so many awesome independent stores, but, oh I forgot that pint of milk. I’ll just pop to Tes. nevermind. The next thing will be the red and blue lights of Tesco popping up under the clock lights of the Liver building…
