Mmmmm meat. I just could not be a vegetarian, and this is why! Char Grilled Pork, Cajun Blackened Chicken, Sirloin or Rib Eye… the Great American Grill, a mouth watering belly expanding mix of the lot, burgers, sticky ribs, salmon, swordfish steak! I can never choose! Of course, there are vegetarian options, quite an extensive offering in fact ranging from enchiladas, to stuffed chillis, nachos to quesadilla– you ay have guessed this is a Mexican! The atmosphere is great in here and it can get buys so perhaps book in advance, but to be honest I’ve never waited long for a table, or my food. The prices are great; expensive for lunch, I think it more your hearty dinner kind of place but the price reflects the portion size! Sides are only a couple of quid, drinks: £1.50 for a coke, around £3.50 for a bottle of beer. desserts look and sound good, but I’ve never indulged there’s never been space! They’re around £4 and change on the day but include basic cheesecake, chocolate cake and one that always appeals: Mexican bread and butter pudding with apricots and raisins(I don’t know what makes it Mexican but it sounds good!) But after whumphing a «Monster Combo» I think sips of water and rest are all that are required for dessert!

The Tavern Co has two branches in Liverpool — one in Queen Square city centre and the other in Smithdown Road. Tavern is a restaurant selling American and Mexican BBQ. I went to the city centre branch which is ideally located in central town close to many pubs and bars as well as being tucked away in the Mediterranean themed Queen Square. As I found out, it does get very busy during peak times especially on a Saturday night at 6pm. Despite the fact it was bustling with customers, I was warmly greeted and seated. I waited no longer than 15 minutes for my meal of burger, fries and salad to arrive. To my surprise, the burger was actually the biggest one I have had in any restaurant I’ve so far been to. It was also lean meat and not greasy(which applied to the fries too). Overall, I was impressed by the efficient service other than that my bottle of salad dressing was taken away from me earlier than I anticipated. For my £8.95 dinner, it was a bit on the expensive side but as a whole, the dining experience added value to the price.

I usually go in here for breakfast around midday on a Sunday, it’s the best time to go because it’s bustling and really family friendly, always with great service. The sole reason I come here is for the fry up. The American Breakfast is an absolute dream with the usual brekkie coming with free refills of tea and coffee AND fluffy pancakes sticky with maple syrup on the side, all for £5.95. Take my word for it, you won’t need to eat anything else all day! Inside, it’s decorated in style true to it’s name with American road signs adorning the walls and in an evening it’s all candles and dimly lit– romantic, no?

There are a number of specials that draw new visitors to the Tavern Co’s American and Mexican Restaurant tucked away off Victoria Street in Liverpool’s City Centre. Check out the 10% Theatre Discounts, Free food for Kids and free wine on Mondays. The duty manager, Sarah is dedicated to providing you with an excellent experience. The restaurant has a very authentic american look and feel. I could not wish for a better menu; Crabcakes, loaded potatoe skins and Halloumi Sandwhiches are all on my list of favourites.
