You’re spoiled for good sandwich shops in this end of Liverpool, between Moorfields station and the bottom end of Church Street. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but it means it can take a little more for somewhere to really stand out. Tasty Bites has all the usual butty options — tuna, ham, chicken — as well as a selection of salads, cold pastas and wraps; all good but no better than any other sandwich place nearby. For me two things separate Tasty Bites from other similar places. The first is ‘The Steak House’, a steak sandwich of epic proportions; strips of tender beefsteak, tangy onions, crisp bread. Restaurant quality food at a sandwich shop price — fantastic. The second is not even a sandwich, it’s the scouse. Rich, stewy goodness –the meat is satisfyingly chewy and the potatoes and carrots fall apart in your mouth. Not quite as good as my mum’s, but still very good. If you’re in the mood for some full blooded food of a lunchtime(warning: if you go with ‘The Steak House’ or the scouse, it will be heavy on you for the rest of the day, it will spoil your dinner) then I can definitely recommend Tasty Bites.
