Paperchase is a sound little shop if you want some fancy stationary equipment or birthday card/wrapping paper. It’s kind of like a stylish and upmarket version of the likes of Ryman and Partners. But beware; this all comes with a rather hefty price tag on a lot of the items in store! They sell all sorts of bits and bobs, from really posh Parker roller balls and biros through to nice fountain pens and even posh pencils! They sell files, folders, envelopes, diaries and journals. They also sell sketch pads, ruled pads and notebooks! Their stock looks good and is really good quality, but if you’re just looking for a scribble pad then go to home bargain! This place is great to get a gift for a special someone or to treat yourself! I’ve got my heart set on a travel journal from here that costs as much as two nights in a cheap hostel. Decisions. Decisions!

My best friend and I have an ongoing joke. We have to consistently purchase each other the most ridiculous comedically relevant card for each birthday we experience. So, on the quest to fulfill this tall order, I entered Paperchase. With a wall absolutely jam-packed displaying sentimental/comedy/cute/romantic/name category and inset here, cards, I was a touch overwhelmed! I cast my eyes round frantically and saw a few contenders. But then my heart stopped. Two rollerblading monkeys with abnormally long arms. ”Oh my goodness, that is so us!” I proclaimed. The card was purchased for a mere two pounds, but in terms of comedy value, it’s priceless. So in a concluding nutshell, I love Paperchase. If you don’t want a card they also sell some great homeware, stationary, wrapping paper, pens and diaries. One of my favourite stores!

A note to aspiring bakers, chefs and home-cooks: Paperchase is one of the few shops that still sells DIY recipe books. Priced around £8, they usually have a couple of new designs each year with dividers so you can split the book into different sections for say, Layer Cakes, Tarts, Muffins and Puddings. The last one I bought even had pockets in the back for you to slide in photocopies or hand-written favourite recipes. If you’ve no interest in food, they also stock colourful travel journals, diaries, notebooks, sketch pads, pens, markers, crayons and wrapping paper. As the store is the size of a broom cupboard compared to the Manchester and London branches, there’s no fine art papers, card, watercolour inks or brushes. There is however, a terrific assortment of greeting cards including some fabulously witty, ironic, cute, rude and nostalgic ones.
