If you’re looking for a delicious, diverse meal out on a budget then I suggest that you look no further than Maray. This small and candle-lit eatery is situated right at the top of Bold Street and serves the best hummus in town. The large pitta bread, falafel and hummus platter was more than enough to satisfy the three of us(yet we did find ourselves almost squabbling for the falafels, they were just so crunchy!) We also opted for the chickpea starter, the fish and sweet potatoes and, my personal favourite, a beef and new potato dish that made my eyes roll into the back of head. The staff were friendly and half of our food was brought out extremely fast yet we had to wait quite some time for the other dishes. I’ve recommended Maray to several customers that have asked me for restaurant advice at work. I feel that the cosy and welcome atmosphere that the restaurant offers is exactly what shoppers need to wind down after a hectic day on their feet.

A delightful restaurant with some very creative dishes and cocktails. I especially love the whitebaits and the figs! Would love to try their cocktails next time! I also prefer how they do small plates so you can try all the different vegs, fish, meat and raw dishes!

Lovely place, great service. I love the long shared tables. The sandwiches in the lunch menu are actually wraps, which I prefer. The lam one is gorgeous. My vegetarian friend had the falafel large plate. He loved the homemade falafel balls(very tasty), but didn’t enjoy the pita bread that much.

Have been meaning to visit Maray for ages and finally this evening I got round to it for a post work glass of vino and North African snack with a friend. Great choice. I picked the tall stools/breakfast bar style area on the left as you go in(over the long shared table down the middle of the room which was already busy) and awaited my friend whilst looking at the simple but classy drinks menu. Tempting as the cocktails were(and bear in mind Maray’s tag line is ‘falafel & cocktails’) I decided to go for the Merlot. My decadent friend when he arrived chose the slightly more expensive Malbec. These are the only two wines by the glass but were excellent. The tapas size ‘small plates’ that we chose(halloumi for him, a falafel, houmous & tabouli plate for me) were absolutely delicious. Small but perfectly formed. The service was delightful and the atmosphere extremely welcoming. So much so that my friend announced just before we left that he may choose Maray as the destination for his date tomorrow night! I’d call that a result! I will also be returning, that’s for sure.
