After struggling to get a doctor’s appointment in the practise closer to the university, I was sent to find Ropewalks. Although apprehensive I’d actually find the place, I discovered it with ease(it’s close to John Lewis). Once inside, the Ropewalks has a large reception. The staff were very amiable and assured me I wouldn’t have to wait too long. As the waiting-room was expansive I could sit away from other patients(and avoid getting coughed on) and indulge in the large collection of magazines the Ropewalks kindly provided. There’s a lot of seating so you shouldn’t have to stand up if the surgery is busy and you aren’t feeling too good. After your appointment, if you need to pick up a prescription, there’s a pharmacy in the same building, so you don’ have to worry about where to go. Excellent service.

This is the newest addition the the group of practices, and doesn’t even feel like a real GPs. The reception area is bright and spacious with TVs dotted about and there is an attached pharmacy so you can skip right out with your prescription. I’ve only been here once, as I tend to get sent to either Student Health or The Infirmary, but it was a pleasant experience(despite the fact that I was ill). The only problem I’d say there is with this group of practices is that it is unlikely you’d see the same doctor twice unless you specifically requested them or had an ongoing ailment/treatment. I find it’s always difficult to have any rapport with a doctor at the best of times, but when you haven’t built up a history with them, you can sometimes feel awkward. I soon got over that though — at the end of the day, I’m ill and they’re their to cure me — sod it if I’ve never seen them before!
