Barnado’s Children’s store is a lovely shiny new chairty shop opposite the Metquarter. It’s such an attractive store; it’s bright and clean and lacks that distinctive charity shop smell, the major negative of second hand shopping!
The professional window displays exhibit all manner of high quality merchandise from prams and moses baskets to baby wear and toys, it all looks brand new and, if it wasn’t for the sign over the window and the extremely low prices, you could be browsing in a speacialist boutique.
Brilliant. Maybe, in many many many years, I too will be shopping here.

I can’t help feeling this Barnado’s must be a god-​send for single mothers and parents on a low income. Not only does it have the biggest selection of children and babies clothes I’ve seen in a charity shop but most of the stock seems in new or nearly new condition. Everything looks and smells fresh and the prices are reasonable. There’s also a small selection of toys, games, bedding, blankets and small pieces of childrens furniture. There’s no free delivery but if you ask nicely, the staff will hold things for you to pick up at a later date.
What more you could want? Aside from a free babysitting service!
