A real pub at last. Very woody, casual, very pubby, felt right at home. Standard pub faire, mushroom soup, crusty bread, steak pie & chips, Haggis, Neeps and Tatties. The waitress was exceptionally helpful, good food, fair prices.

This is a good, large bar in central Linlithgow. It got a lot of trade when the Star and Garter closed down, but it was it’s main competition beforehand. They could do with serving food a little later but it’s usually more a drinking den at night. They could do with more live music nights, rather than DJ/Karaōke but it’s usually a good laugh and a fun crowd! really good value for money!

I had lunch here today after checking out the menus of a lot of other pubs and cafes in the town this seemed to offer the most choice in the pleasantest surroundings. It was fairly quiet and there was no background music, so that was ideal far better for talking. The pub is spacious and very clean(the gleaming stainless steel round wash handbasins in the ladies room have to be seen to be believed!!) There are flat screen TVs around the walls and I believe live sport can be watched there when there’s an important game on TV. On Monday nights, apparently, there is a quiz too. The dining area is carpeted and comfortable and there’s a large bar area. It’s a Belhaven pub so there are at least two Belhaven draught beers, plus Guinness and other real ales, wine and cocktails. There’s an extensive menu with something for just about everyone: pastas, steaks, noodle dish, salads, burgers, pies, and several vegetarian choices, plus delicious desserts and summer sundaes. There’s table service, which I hadn’t expected, and the two different men who took the order and brought the food were very friendly and pleasant. I did think that the food took a long time to come(considering the pub wasn’t busy) although it was very good. The Italian Illy coffees are nice but I felt you don’t get a lot for the money. I ordered a ‘large latte’ but it wasn’t particularly large and could have been milkier. The disabled toilet is downstairs and has a sliding door a very sensible idea as sometimes doors can get in the way if someone can’t see or is in a wheelchair. I already mentioned the ladies room; that(along with the gents) is upstairs and along various corridors. It was sparkling clean and the Imperial Leather soap dispensers were a nice addition. Pity I can’t give four and a half stars because four seems a little unfair. However, I’ll have to give four because of slow service and the coffee not being as large or milky as I’d expect! However, it won’t stop us going back there the next time we’re in Linlithgow as it really does seem the best place to eat in the town.

I went here on a Friday night and there was some very dodgy karaōke going on. The place was full of teenagers. I actually felt like I was in an under 18’s disco however I’m not sure if that’s just a sign that I’m getting old or that the bouncers are a bit slack. Anyway, they have a large shots list which we decided to work our way through — £2.50 for Jäger Bombs, Skittle Bombs etc = total steal!!! 3 drinks and 3 shots for under £15, this place definitely scores extra brownies points for this reason alone. OK Linlithgow is small and has limited amount of pubs to choose from but still this isn’t my favourite.
