Lovely place to relax with a cup of tea and a cake — we sat in the cellar and felt very comfy and well looked-after! The toilets are a bit of a trek and would be impossible for a wheelchair user, but all in all it definitely beats a chain coffee shop!

What a delightful café. We were recommended the appletree by friends so whilst in town this Saturday I thought we would pop in for lunch, and I was not disappointed. We went downstairs to a truly wonderful cellar and sat on big comfy sofas. The waitress was with us before id even taken my coat off and was very helpful recommending a smoothie for my daughter who is very picky. I ordered a cappuccino and Lincolnshire sausage and mash, my daughter had a fresh berry smoothie and a Panini. The cappuccino was one of the best I have had from Lincoln, and knocks spots off mass produced foam filled cups from the likes of starbucks or nero’s. The sausage and mash was so delicious and of a very high quality considering the prices were so reasonable, it was also very obviously home made — non of that microwave pub grub here. Even though I was very full after my meal I agreed to share a slice of their home made carrot cake with my daughter. It was delicious and should I have had the room I would have eaten the whole slice and not shared it at all! My daughter enjoyed her smoothie so much that when we came to pay we got a smoothie to take away with her. The only thing i could knock it for is that it has quite a lot of stairs but thats only due to it being split over 3 levels, and the character of the building makes up for that. All the staff were very friendly and whilst I was paying and waiting for the card machine I got talking to the owner. She was very friendly and after reading other Qype comments on here I can only presume they caught her on a bad day as she couldn’t have been more helpful. I was at a loose end as to what to do with my daughter as I had exhausted all activities earlier on in the holidays, she suggested many places and things to do and from that we opted to walk around the castle as it was such a lovely day. All in all independent cafés such as this are a credit to a city like Lincoln, and I look forward to many more visits and carrot cake!

Mooched on over to the appletree as i didnt much like the look of the pub opposite it. The food was both gorgeous and very reasonable priced, the staff were all very friendly with the unfortunate exception of the co owner, she was a trifle abrupt didnt make eye contact and generally lacked social skills. However dont let that put you off! Other than that, a really lovely little place

What a truly delightful little place. We came to Lincoln on Hot Steve’s birthday and were tempted by Caffe Nero, only to have our comfy sofa spot usurped by scary looking beardy man, and I found the pressure all too much so we left there, wandered up the hill a bit further and stumbled upon The Appletree. Having sussed out that they didn’t take cards, I asked where the nearest cashpoint was(I’m such a tourist even though I’m a yellowbelly) and the nice chap in the fancy apron told me Poundland, across the way. So we returned, found a nice spot upstairs by the mahussive window, ordered a cup of chai latte and a mug of tea, a caesar salad and a mozzarella and tomato salad(£10.25 all in), and waited for the rain to pass. It was lovely. It’s a shame it wasn’t mad busy, particularly for a Bank Holiday, because for the prices and quality of food, it deserves to be. I’m a big fan of independent coffee shops and cafes, me, so this place is a definite favourite. PS They have an impressive list of juices and smoothies with all sorts of healthy stuff in like echinacea and guarana and ginseng and that — perfect for the morning after :)
