Steamer Trading are ace. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and really take care of their customers. For example, I bought a mixer here 18 months ago, and when it fell apart — outside of the 12-month warranty, they sent it back to the manufacturer for repair and took care of everything for me. Brilliant.

Steamer Trading in Lewes was probably my first ever taste of this wonderful company. We’ve visited many of other branches since, and there are better [bigger] ones, but this one has a certain charm. It’s not easy to navigate with a pushchair, but that’s not the fault of the shop! The staff are very welcoming and willing to help if you need to find something specific, otherwise it’s just lovely to browse and find all those things that you never know existed, or needed [herb scissors, anyone?]. Come here for Le Creuset, a new toaster, a soup blender, lunch boxes, kitchen gadgets, salt and pepper mills, paper napkins, a new mug and much more!

This company has quite a few branches around. This one is a bit cramped and has quite dangerous steps around the shop. BEWARE! The stock is a little over the top pricewise and full of gadgets that you may never use. Direct parking is a problem but you can park about half a mile away. The shop is on a steep hill which would make it difficult for disabled and pushers.

Absolutely love this store, or more the things in it. I am a big cooking fan and so I could walk around here for hours, admiring the numerous appliances within Steamer Trading. I came here to get a coffee machine specifically, I certainly wasn’t disappointed. They had at least a dozen on offer, ranging in price and functionality. The staff were reasonably knowledgeable, providing a few insights, or more insights of previous customers. This store isn’t really about the knowledge of workers however, it is about the quality products that can be found.

O.K. bit of a snap decision to give this place 5 stars I have to admit, but I don think it deserves it(even if I came to that conclusion after I realised I 5 starred it). But it is really lovely in here, the moment you walk in you feel relaxed and in the mood to have a good look around. They’ve really made the place into a nice looking shop, which could almost double as the interior of someone’s house, just someone who has way too much money, and so buys different models of the same thing. There’s cool bread bins(see pic) which looked like kitsch 50s Alien pods, and Union Jack biscuit tins, which somehow just look stylish and not weirdly nationalist, and I also spotted a really fancy little, retro, cream coloured, Ice cream maker. And what made all of these products even better, was the fact that they were nicely laid out, and backgrounded by some chilled out jazz music.Nice.

The source of all things Le Creuset… go forth and drool. Yes, I realse they are just colored cast-iron pots but the fifties woman in me wants the turquoise set and she is surprisingly feisty! It’s interesting to the difference between this steamer trading and the one in Brighton– this Lewes version is much homier and old-fashioned looking, whilst the Brighton one is all about sleek, shiny and technically advanced. The stock is similar, though this one is smaller. They both pack in great ranges of cookware, crockery, cutlery, cutting imolements and other ‘c’ words to do with cooking. The emphasis here is alittle more on aprons, home baking and expensive kitchen kit-think cherry red kitchenaid mixer rather than chrome gaggia coffee maker. I love to wander round both though and the presentation of this Lewes one is always lovely. I can usually find a fun gadget within my price range of a few pounds too!
