We came here for lunch and a cold beverage. I had a virgin ginger and mint drink in a tall glass. It was heaven in a glass on a hot summers day. For lunch I ordered the grilled Mediterranean salad. The salad was absolutely delicious. After finishing our meal I sat back and looked up. I was surprised to see a domed ceiling decorated with gold gilt. It was stunning.

Having not visited here in quite a while I popped in for a Sunday afternoon drink a few weeks ago and the place was empty. It was a stark contrast to the Orange tree over the road. Went back in for a drink on a Saturday afternoon and found a few extra people there and the ‘Secret Garden’ out the back. The garden is more of a courtyard with only a few plants dotted around. Again though, the lack for people gave the place little atmosphere. If you like a quite afternoon drink in the sun, or just outside, then this is a welcome addition to the few Leicester city centre beer gardens. I’ll be going back to see if the garden is open in the evenings.

Worth a visit for the ceiling alone(high dome showing scenes from Leicester’s international twin towns). The beer and food have seen better days, sadly(it used to be a mecca for belgian beer and french cuisine) although the beer is still available in smaller quantities, and it’s still a great place to chill in the day and on a quiet night(it’s not so good when it’s busy).

spectacular décor, relaxing atmosphere and great food. A continental style bar & café, with billions of foreign beers to choose from. Not cheap — but this keeps the trash away !! A very pleasant evening is had spent in this bar.

Amazing interior, always feel it is a bit too posh for little old me but it is a nice place to go if you want to feel like you are in 17th century France(or Brussels). There is a good selection of drinks on offer, quite expensive but it is a nice place to sit and relax. Unsure about the food, and it doesn’t have an outdoor area which is a shame. It is also near Highcross so it is quite centralised location in you are in town. It is a lot nicer now they have completed the roadworks that have blocked up the road for so long now.

In my own humble opinion, Café Bruxelles is a sophisticated joint with a jazz pulse. The premises used to be a bank, and the owners infused the old stuffy building with a 1930’s film noir soul that is both elegant and captivating to the senses. Picture high arches, frescoes and subtle lighting. Service is brisk, European even and prices are surprisingly keen. Large selection of imported lagers(i.e. strong) and a continental menu. The mussels are particularly good in here. I always make a stop in here as it is one of Leicester’s mature night spots and a classy place to enjoy a drink.

This is a really great bar! The décor is a little kooky — check out the murals on the huge dome ceiling of various world wide locations(and Leicester)! but this is a pretty classy joint. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the bar is well stocked. The beer menu is a delight with some cracking selections on there — my favourite being the Kriek. They also do some great food with really good a la carte menu at a reasonable price on certain nights. Finally there are a whole range of live music and even dance nights held in the basement bar area, which in no way detract from the chilled Continental vibe upstairs. Cons This is one of the pricier places on the High Street, akin to the Orange Tree, but it somehow feels better value because of the quality of European beers available.

The interior, and indeed exterior to Café Bruxelles is stunning. High ceilings painted with murals/frescos and nice comfy chairs. Good range on the menu — maybe slightly pricey for a light lunch but I reckon the setting is worth it. A gem in an otherwise quite bland city.

A huge range of continental beers and classic European styling. There is a wide selection of baguettes and ciabattas, wraps, open sandwiches, soups and salads to choose from as well as delicious Belgian waffles and crepes.
