I wouldn’t really say that this is a good place to shop. There are plenty of other corner shops that offer a friendlier service, cheaper goods and more choice in the way of quality. To me, it’s pretty much just the same as other corner shops. Which is pretty basic and boring. I guess it;s okay to pop in to buy a pint of milk every now and again but for anything else i’d go elsewhere.

Recently refurbished but still quite expensive, Woodhouse Stores is nothing too special. I only ever go in if I am passing on my way to the Chemic Tavern and have a sudden greedy urge for chocolate, but even then feel slightly guilty as it is blatantly over-priced. They sell a small selection of food(crisps, chocolate, cereal and cheese I seem to remember), alcohol and newspapers. All of which are slightly expensive. If you are desperate for a simple purchase of the corner shop variety they will get the job done but don’t make it your place of weekly shop. You will live to regret it(if you can bare to live at all on low quality grub and even lower quality rags to read.

This is a slightly below-average corner shop that I rarely visit, due to both the nearby Spar and corner shop being vastly superior in terms of quality and choice. For some reason, they only stock the Sun and the Yorkshire Evening Post, and if you ask them for a copy of the Guardian they look at you as if you’ve just asked for cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off. They do stock a nice range of more unusual soft drinks like Snapple, and occasionally such delights as Hershey’s chocolate bars, but the alcohol selection is minimal and the few items of ‘fresh’ fruit and veg look as if they’ve been on the shelves since Tony Blair was in power. Head up Pennington Street instead to the ‘dog shop’ or the Spar, both of which have more choice and are better value for money.
