Now, I do have to start highlighting that this was first trip to Verve Bar, and I was only there for a couple of pints, so an update is definitely due at some point. However, it was a fairly pleasant experience all round, without standing out in any way. The bar staff were pleasant and there’s a nice selection of drinks. It was pretty quiet for a Saturday night, which was a little worrying, but there were some people there who were nice and chatty so bonus points there. I understand there’s live music and comedy so I’ll need to pay a visit to sample those delights. Until then though, I can say that whilst I won’t making a beeline for this bar anytime soon, if I happen to be passing I’d definitely pop in for a drink or two.

I know, I only reviewed this place a couple of months ago. But you know what? I love Verve, in all its forms. The comedy cellar is fantastic, the live music by Hayley Gaftarnick rocks, and for a casual night of raucous drinking it’s the business. Why? Because of the staff. Yes, there are tons of excellent drinks — ranging from cocktails to lagers to craft beers — but truly, the staff are awesome. They pick the most excellent tunes for a boogie at 3am, and I’ve never been served without a smile or a bit of banter. My top tip? By them a ruddy drink. Not only do they deserve it, but often they’re so pleased to get the offer, you’ll end up a few tequilas down for the courtesy. It’s nice to be nice, but it’s excellent to be excellent — so be excellent to Verve, and Verve will most certainly be excellent to you.

Top bar, especially on a summer weekend with the windows open and the music playing. good beer and cocktails. they have a members card which saves you 20%off a round, pays for it’s self straight away, can also be used at reform and call lane social.

Verve isn’t going to offer you anything startlingly original, but it does what it does well. It’s a small, intimate watering hole with a well-stocked bar. You’ll find everything from a lengthy list of cocktails to the more exotic, top-end beers that have become staples of the likes of North Bar and Reform. Upstairs is the main area, with drinking and a bit of dancing, while there’s a(very!) small venue for live shows downstairs. Music-wise you won’t find anything too cutting edge, but you will hear a well-rounded collection of indie, alternative and rock mainstays. As you might have guessed from the above info, Verve tends to get a slightly older crowd than the sweatier bars in LS1 — not dancing-with-mobility-scooter-old, but folk in their mid-late twenties who’ve put their student days behind them. That’s not to say Verve is a sedate night out, though — if you get there later on you’ll have to dodge a lot of swaying hips in the best possible way.

Tiny little bar Verve belongs on this street full of quirky, individual watering holes that focus on beer and music and not much else. Rather like Mojo, with which it shares a street, Verve is frequented by those in the know about good bars — the sort of people who classify a good night as listening to an acoustic musician sing their heart out in a cosy little bar, rather than a sweaty rave in a club packed with thousands of students. Everything about Verve is intimate and perfectly sized — the few tables, the bar(where you can always get served a cocktail quickly), even the toilets — but it doesn’t have quite as much character as some of the other bars in this area. The music acts on show can also be a bit hit and miss in my experience, but the atmosphere is always top drawer and it makes a good stop off-point on a weekend night if you’re in the vicinity.

Small, intimate venue The Verve stands in one of Leeds most populated side streets. Directly opposite rock venue«Rio’s», The Verve is a hangout for indie/rock and alternative music lovers and cocktail drinkers! The Verve hosts live music on both weeknights and weekend and supports local acts in particular! No big names will be seen here however if you want to listen to some fresh music while having a relaxing beverage this is your place. The average age of the customers in the Verve is a little older and a little more laid back than age of the customers in the nightclubs in the city center. The drinks menu is vast with a huge variety of shooters, cocktails and other yummy long drinks! Cocktails range from 4.00−7.00 depending on how hard your days been and how much alcohol you require! The Verve is nothing flash and not particularly diverse, however makes a quirky change for the clubbing scene and works as a classy bar in a more laid-back scene with some excellent local live music acts.

Cosy little bar with a few small tables and bar stools on the main floor, and a funky little all-red retro downstairs room replete with small stage, separate sound system and bar, and faux leather bench that wraps around half the room. Good acoustic music venue with free entry and live music every Thursday and Sunday night, usually hosted by the gregarious singer-songwriter Hayley Gaftarnick. Right next to Mojo at the bottom of Merrion Street.
