These guys take Bite Card too for 20% off. Get one if you live in train stations. Next to Café Ritazza it deserves more stars as they got the drink right and the large is massive! Sandwiches on offer change for time of day which is good, They are actually quite nice for a train station.

Upper Crust is something of a neccesity, when you’re rushing to get a train but want an injection of caffeine that includes some kind of foamed milk, as opposed to the UHT offerings on the train. I’ve partaken of their offerings several times, and never been overwhelmed. To be honest, it’s all fairly obvious, and you know what you’re getting. The ready made baguettes are there under the glass counter, alongside a host of varied semi-inspiring pastries, and lattes that taste pretty similar to cappuccinos. The staff vary from happy to disinterested, which can be expected of a chain baguette shop in a train station. I like their apple Danish, but I don’t enjoy their coffee — more, I tolerate it because I’m usually too late to get to Laynes! Basically, they’re alright and better than being hungry, but will not provide the wow factor.

Ok, so you’re in the railway station, you’re waiting, you need some refreshment… Been there, done it and in my case I ended up at Upper Crust, not because it tempted me with it allusions to the high life but because when i surveyed the little row of possibles Upper Crust had vacant comfortable seating. my latte was entirely acceptable and priced for transient trade(not the cheapest but affordable if you have little choice). I found the staff to be polite but a little distant and the sandwiches just a little tired(but it was getting towards the end of the day). I had the dubious pleasure of sharing my crumbs with a pigeon which had ventured deep within the seating area driven by hunger and the sure knowledge that no-one was likely to chase it off. Upper Crust serves a need and does it sufficiently well so I’ll leave it at that.
