TK Maxx

I used to swear by TK Maxx. Cheap import clothes was all win when I was young (I was going through my baggy jeans ‘hoodrat’ phase). What can it say about TK Maxx now I’m 26?
The main attraction to me still about shopping here is finding something unique among the piles and piles of clothes on display. You really can get lost in here! Saying that though you REALLY do need time to look in TK Maxx. So much crap on display and if you’re limited on time that’s no good!
In 2013 there isn’t as much variety. They’ve gotten less unique stuff in and seem to get stuff in that they know ‘average joe’ will like. Looking like everyone else is not my thing, but I can see why some people might like TK Maxx’s new stance and how that benefits TK Maxx. I could say that these days the stock seems to be more consistently good.
This TK Maxx in Leeds City Centre sucks though!!! The crowds can get really annoying, the good stuff is often gone quicker than lasagne at Garfield’s house and it can turn into a right jumble sale with so many people searching. This store is in the central hub of the retail madness in Leeds so I guess success can become a curse.
It is a store in my opinion that is best when it is in an out of town location. I’ve been to the stores in the centre of Harrogate, Huddersfield, Preston and Sheffield and it never really works. The ones in out of town and no so prime locations such as the one in Doncaster (Wheatley Hall Road) are better as there is less of a crowd. It’s a store that you have to make effort to get to.

I always was so snobby about TK Maxx, but I thought I would get past this and actually have a look in. I’m huge on designers and I was so surprised my what I found. I always thought it was just your typical store to sell discount Calvin Klein and Hilfiger, this is true of TK Maxx however I found oh so much more!
As soon as I walked in I was instantly attracted to a blazer, looking at it closer I realized it was Luella! Luella for £60, are you kidding me? I got so excited to the extent that I got butterflies. Delving in deeper I came across so much Moschino and even found a tapered blazer by Alexander McQueen, it was still £150 but down from £500 and well now that our beloved God has past away, that jacket is worth so much more.
This store is just huge, it spans over two floors and there are racks and racks of clothes. If you are looking for anything, a prom dress, a shirt, some trousers, they will without a doubt have it. However the only thing is, its full of a lot of clothes that not even my grandmother would wear. So dig deep to find that bargain! I’m a big fan of their accessories section, the other day I found a Moschino scarf for just £17, and I wear it everyday.
My advice, don’t be fooled by the qualms that are associated with TK Maxx, go in for yourself as you never know what you may find. I swear the stock changes in there daily, which is just great. It’s situated perfectly in Leeds city centre next to Sainsbury’s, which also makes it very accessible.

I used to love the old TK Maxx in Leeds, and when I heard it was closing down, and actually saw the size of the new Headrow site, I was a little worried it would lose some of it’s appeal.
Most people by now will know the premise of TK Maxx, it’s one place full of designer brands that are no longer in season, yet some are, covering pretty much everything in the spectrum from ladies clothing, men’s wear, kid’s clothing, home stuff, shoes, bags, luggage, belts, underwear, sunglasses, perfume, even sweets and chocolates.
The store is HUGE and on two floors there’s hours of browsing fun to be had. The ground floor is dedicated to ladies, kids, and home stuff, and downstairs is men’s wear, luggage, footwear and other bits and bobs. Styles range from sportswear, to suits, to designer casual, to a bit strange.
Some things are BARGAINS and others are no different to what you pay elsewhere, but in the winter coat/​jacket department, there are always bargains to look through, goretex coats with more than £100 off, I’ve seen Uggs in here too, and in Summer there are masses of sunglasses to choose from, Ralph Lauren, Chanel, Jean Paul Gaultier, Tommy Hilfiger, Givenchy and the list goes on. The brand range keeps expanding, and if brands are your thing, but you don’t always like the price tag attached, then TK Maxx can prove a nice alternative. Calvin Klein luggage which retails at £150 a case can be found in here for £70, and I know that some people will take issue with paying £70 for a suitcase, but there’s a healthy saving going on there from what you would be expected to pay elsewhere. Sometimes you have to spend big to make a big saving, but I have picked up a Timberland hoddy for £6, Ralph Lauren T shirts for £10, Supra’s for £30 and many other things I’ve been happy with.
Sometimes you have to rummage for your bargain, but whereas I think that all adds to the fun, others really do take issue with it, especially as the shoes don’t come in a box, but hey, you just chuck the box away anyway, so what does it matter?!

So, TK Maxx used to be right out of the way on the top floor of the Leeds Shopping Plaza. For me, TK Maxx’s have always been out of the way. They had a similar setting in a run down shopping centre in Bristol too. However, in came the big guns, who decided to move it into the enormous development that has always seemed to have been developing for as long as I can remember, on The Headrow, just before Primark.
I’m not saying this is necessarily a negative thing. Of all the TK Maxx’s I have been into, this is probably my favourite. It has a modern interior that repels my initial feelings of claustrophobia whenever I normally enter the shop. Having said that though, you do need a good hour or so to spend in here. It is large, but is still filled with the rubbish one normally expects to trawl through before finding a true gem. I think you have to have the right ammount of patience before you can truely enjoy the shopping concept of TK Maxx, and although I don’t think I am quite there, I am willing to express that this is definitely a better one of the ever expanding chain.

TK Maxx is a hit and miss kind of store really. You win some, you lose some.
If you decide to shop here, make sure you have lots of time and patience to trawl the endless rails of clothing, accessories and homewares.
There are plenty of bargains to be had here and I’ve found some lovely winter coats at a fraction of the price you’d expect to pay.

TK Maxx is both a blessing and a curse. The store is humungous, which bodes well in terms of choice. You can literally get lost in a sea of clothing, and there is such a vast range that they are sure to have what you are looking for. The handbag section alone is about 6 aisles, with all the colours of the rainbow covered. My favourite items to look for are their dresses. They have so many quirky pieces that you will almost certainly find something unique. All of their stock is marked down designer clothing so that is another bonus — bargains galore!
On the flip side, the vast array of choice can often be overwhelming. If you aren’t in the mood/​tired/​in a rush, then this place can be as hellish as Primark to sift through. Too much choice and too many people.
The other dark side to TK Maxx is once again, the designer clothing element. Whilst in a lot of cases it means that the unique brands are more affordable, it also means that the one item that you might fall in love with is something like £300 marked down from £500. Whilst a £200 saving is great, it’s not so much if you only meant to spend £40 in the first place!
So I have a love-​hate relationship with TK Maxx. On so many occasions I have walked away with some really lovely, quirky and well made frocks. But then on a few occasions I have run out screaming (or, at least, briskly walked out tutting) with nothing.

I heart T K Maxx. This one, however, has a door about five times too small for its size. The place itself is MASSIVE, but the door is tiny and causes grumpy shoppers to bottleneck getting in and out.
Braved the Christmas rush today and despite the enormous queue at the till was amazed by how quickly we got served, as they (rightly for once!) had all the tills open.
Not half as stressful as anticipated, and we got a huge box of Guerlain choccies for under a tenner.
Bong.

TK Maxx does have nearly everything under one roof. The selection of women’s shoes is great, though the women’s clothing is not as good. There’s a good selection of men’s clothing and shoes, and gifts.
It can get pretty busy in here if you go in on the wrong day.

For anyone that loves TK Maxx aka my brother in law who lives for this place (because he can buy anything and everything in one shop), this is the new place to go! It’s where aalders was and is the first shop to open in the massive building next to the St John’s Centre. It’s lovely and spacious, really nice lighting and will definately entice those who are a little sceptical of going in like me! It’s got some great bargains and is really well organised and laid out which makes it much less jumble sale and much more fancy high street store! Definately worth a look inside, especially if you already love the store!

The recently opened T K Maxx is a breath of fresh air compared to the old city store. The new store is at least double the size of the previous store and is probably larger than a lot of the out of town TK Maxx stores. If you have never been to TK Maxx, it is a store that sells cheap branded clothing, shoes, homeware and bags and luggage. Most of the stuff is end of line or last seasons stock so there may only be a small number of some items. There are lots of clothes to look at and they are tightly packed in. You have to be in the right mood and have plenty of patience to shop at T K Maxx. It is great if you want to pick up some clothes on the cheap but it can be very frustrating.
