I would like to draw your attention to a food business called Taste at the following address: Unit 1 – 2 231 – 235 Chapeltown Road Chapel Town Leeds LS73DX Unfortunately this shop, selling as a café/sandwich shop/bakery/patisserie/pizzeria, is in breach of safety & hygiene practices. The shop and kitchen is covered in numerous flies that take residence in the food cabinets containing numerous cakes, baked goods & pasta bakes. One of the cabinets is not refrigerated and hosts pre-microwaved potatoes, meaty pasta bakes & quiche from opening at 9am to closing in the late evening which is long past what is legal of holding foods at ambient. The cakes that are kept at refrigeration temperatures, when it is turned on at opening, are often the same cakes found a week a later if not missing a few slices. The remaining cakes are left out for the flies. The preparation area behind the counter has only use of white preparation boards and knives for a range of cakes, sandwiches, meats & cheese and very easily cross contaminated. When the cakes are cut they seem to be sized as to the servers fancy. For the same price you can be served a slither or a wedge breaching any act of treating a customer fairly. There is a meek screen door to the kitchen which does nothing for the flies. Looking through the kitchen matches the comments of the staff with a fridge unit operating, on average, at 15’C whilst holding more pasta bakes, quiche and ribs. The small stove top by the door used for breakfast sandwiches operates on a two pan system to fry off vegetarian often with meat. Over the breakfast period of 9 – 12 Tupperware tubs can be viewed through the screen beside the stove of pre-cooked bacon & sausages which again exceeds ambient limits. When surfaces are wiped over it’s with a dirty tea towel or tired kitchen sponge rather than a disposable cloth. Staff are often seen being paid cash in hand without a wage slip present. I wouldn’t be surprised if tax & national insurance were also being avoided.
