I love to eat and I love to cook and a by product of my time in Birmingham is my love of all things Indian. This is where Spice Corner come to my rescue. I’ve been looking for a decent spice shop since my move to Leeds and oh have I found one. What is placed before your eyes is a delight on the senses and a future pleasure for your desiring palette. Spices from whole Mace and Black Cardamon lay(or hang) side by side with Indian delights such as Okra and Plantain and stacked on the shelves in boxes and tins is a small army of varying increments and additions. And the price isn’t bad too. A lot cheaper then the over priced items in your supermarket, this is definately the place for all your needs. The delights of looking at so many different ingredients, and new ones too, make me giddy with delight. Imagine Charlie in Willie Wonka’s Factory when he finds the ticket, thats me. If you have a question just ask The two ladies on the stall are friendly and helpful and add to the whole experience of this little stall. Get youself down, get buying and get yourself in that kitchen.

With vegetables piled high and spices in packets hanging from hooks and a massive sign proclaiming ‘Spice Corner’ you won’t miss this delight in Leeds City Market. You are guaranteed to find a few vegetables here that you don’t in the big supermarkets such as plantain(looks like a banana) and a few varieties of the sweet potato. The walls are stacked with jars of spices and curry paste, tins of beans and packets of spice. If you fancy trying something new, have a browse and ask the lady working there what you might mix with the different spices.

Spice Corner is a visual delight, a cacophony of spices, pulses, herbs and fresh vegetables. After getting the urge to create his own curry from scratch, my Other Half embarked on a mission to do just that. Spice Corner was his savour when selecting the mixture of mainstream and more obscure ingredients required. I don’t think there is any herb or spice that the stall does not stock. The aromas that waft from the stall are fantastic, it makes me feel immediately hungry. The lady that served us was fabulous. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable about all things spicy, she guided us into finding what we needed, whilst also interjecting her own hints and tips. The prices are significantly less than the brands that rip you off in the supermarkets. So much better value, and the quality is incomparable. The stall resembles somewhere that I would like to shop, grocery shopping with personality.

Spice Corner is on a corner and sells spices! It has a pretty vast range of spices and spice-related ingredients in packets, pots, boxes, jars and tins. There are also lot of packets of mysterious looking dried bits and bobs, bread, dates, some fruit and vegetables and dried and fresh herbs. The signage is much neater and clearer than many of the poorly signed stalls in the market and it packs a huge variety of products into a tiny shop. Prices are pretty cheap here and the staff are friendly and informative. At Spice Corner you’re sure to find all the constituent parts of a good home-made curry and several new and unusual ingredients to try!
