The best Chinese takeaway in Leeds! I have been coming to the Silver Vase for over 6 years. And I have never had a bad meal. I have tried different starters and main dishes over the years and they have been very tasty. The portion sizes are a good size. On many occasions I have had to share a main. Keep up the good work Silver Vase.

The best Gluten Free Chinese take away ever!(But pricy) They accommodate Gluten Free and still make it taste incredible, I have tried a few gluten free Chinese’s in my time and this wins hands down, the food is just awesome, inside the building isn’t much to look at but its a «take away» so that didn’t bother me. It does get busy so place an order over the phone if u don’t fancy hanging about but the food is worth the wait. It also has a good hygiene rating I seem to remember it having a five so it is a quality take away. Would be a definite five star if it was cheaper. (Around 6 Take aways had)

Worth a visit. I wouldn’t have the mutant Prawn Toast or Spring Rolls though, looked deformed and bashed together.

We’ve just moved to Chapel A from Kirkstall/Headingley(ish) and were actually worried because Sakura won’t deliver this far away, and they’re our bestest chinese takeaway people, and actually come to think of it I’m pretty gutted I can’t have an El Faros again unless I drive there myself, but that’s another story. Anyway, a friend told us this was the nearest and tastiest place if we fancied a chinese but looking at the menu I wasn’t convinced because I love those little gyoza dumplingy things from Sakura and they don’t do them here, but anyway Steve was hungry and getting grumpy so we had some spring rolls and I had some of his beef in black pepper sauce. Not cheap, but not extortionate, and a lot of food for your money. There were heaps of vegetables in the beef dish but not so that the ratio made you feel jipped out of meat. Anyway, the spring rolls were fresh and delicious, and all in all we might just make it through our time in Chapel A without Sakura. We’ll have to see.

As you can see from my snap, Silver Vase is a pretty busy Chinese takeaway. With no seating area, you ring up, or go in and order. It’s simplistic, yet still manages to keep that chinese charm. It serves up all the favourites, spring rolls, prawn toasts, crispy seaweed, sweet and sour dishes, chow mein. If you read my reviews, you’d know I’m a sucker for crispy chilli beef, but this time, I tried the king prawns with ginger and it was a taste sensation. Some think it’s mighty expensive, but for 2 mains and some prawn crackers, I think a tenner is fairly standard. After finding some awful chinese takeaways in my time, I have to give Silver Vase a 4/5, I just wish it was on my doorstep!

Quite simply the bench mark for Chinese takeaways in North Leeds.

When I first moved to near the Silver Vase Chinese Take Away on Steinbeck road in the heart of Chapel Allerton Leeds I thought it didn’t look much. It is quite small and a bit 1970s. But to be fair what it lacks on modern décor it makes up for on reputation and great food. The prices are low too and of the five or six Chinese Japanese and Thai restaurants in the area this is in the top two for sure. The staff are lovely and I cannot really fault anything about this restaurant. If you like your Chinese food then 100% give this place a try you will not regret it.

This is our closest chinese takeaway and we got luck with this one. The quality of this chinese food is great, really tasty and good value too. My husband and I usually have a main and rice each and prawn crackers to share and we can normally buy that for a tenner at the silver vase. My favourite is King Prawn with ginger and spring onions, Mark likes chicken or beef with green peppers with black bean sauce. I’ve also had the prawn toast and sesame prawn toast and they were excellent as well. When I was a teenager I worked at a chinese restaurant, it was a good one too and that’s kind of set the standard for chinese food for me. Silver Vase food comes really close to that standard so it must be pretty good.

This is a surprisingly excellent cantonese takeaway. Rather than the usual sugar-and-MSG-enhanced gloop usually served up by these sort of places, the food here is fresh, crunchy, and subtly flavoured — just as cantonese food should be. The bad side however are the staff. They are what some people might call ‘c*s’. When my friend tried to order his food in Chinese(thinking it would be both fun and polite) they swore at him and told him to get out. So maybe they don’t like China… but it’s not their place to make political statements by being rude to the customers. Their job is to serve chop suey. If it weren’t for this, and the fact that there are no vases at all inside, let alone silver ones, they would have had 5 stars from me. In summary, go there and try the food but stick 2 chopsticks up at them as you leave.
