Pizza Milano is great if you’re looking for a pizza that’s not just a slightly cheesy slab or dough. Their pizzas always seem to be just that bit tastier than their competitors and competitively priced to boot. Pizza Milano have chosen a good location to scoop up all the staggering students after they’ve left nearby pubs on Hyde Park corner or near Leeds Uni. I do tend to cave in to fast food cravings much more easily when drunk(especially when I realize I haven’t eaten since tea 6 hours ago) though I sometimes manage to curb them — being so skint it’s physically impossible to buy anything is a good tactic, but if you’re only a bit skint knowing that you’ll get a decent pizza for a decent price can be just too tempting, especially when sporting a rather fetching pair of beer goggles! I must add though that Luciano’s at the end of Queen’s Road in Hyde Park just pips all the others to the post in my opinion.

Second only to Lucky’s in my opinion, Pizza Milano is another takeaway place that’s a notch above your usual greasy, sloppy offerings. They’re a touch cheaper than Lucky’s too, and although they don’t have toppings as exotic as their rivals they do a mean veggie calzone and an excellent quatro formaggio that’s nice and cheesy without falling apart in your hands. They do burgers too, and even kebabs that people seem to be able to consume without having to be drunk first, and all in a handy location that’s within staggering distance of Hyde Park and just off the Otley run.

As Romeez’s standards have slipped a bit of late, Milano is often a good option for a late night pizza, especially if you’re walking back to Headingley/Hyde Park from town. Though the food is not the cheapest of the takeaways in this area, it is amongst the best. The pizzas, in particular, are handmade with a bit of love and care, and they always go down a treat, irrespective of how hammered you are. I’m sure it used to have a sign up saying«Leeds takeaway of the year 2002» or something. Or was that somewhere else? Either way, good effort Milano’s.
