A lovely hotel, beautiful setting and very helpful staff. We booked online and were looking forward to our«Romantic Break» however staff at the hotel seemed unaware of the offer. Once we explained what it was they acted promptly to put everything in place. We certainly couldn’t fault their care or capacity to do their best to meet guests requirements. It would appear that there is a lack of communication between QHotels and the individual hotels. The room was quiet, very comfortable and clean. I did find it very dark though and despite using all the lamps provided would have found it impossible to read or apply makeup at the dressing table. My only other negative comment would be that there was very little provision for storage of clothes. Apparently following a recent refurbishment the chest of drawers that also served as a suitable place for suitcases to sit had been removed. Consequently our suitcase sat on the floor and, to a certain extent, we «lived our of it» I think this omission could easily be recttified. Service in the restaurant was excellent and the food very good.

We stayed here recently over a weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the occasion. The hotel is set in its own, spacious, grounds, with the approach to the hall being very impressive and grand. A golf club is discreetly tucked away to the side and out of obvious view from the hall. Our evening meal was of a high standard and the portion sizes were good. We did not leave the table hungry. The accompanying house wines were of good quality and the price was exceptionally good value. As for our room, it was of a good size, with a very comfortable double bed. It was well appointed although, horror of horror, the mini bar/fridge was bereft of anything! This is the first time I have even been in an hotel with a mini bar in the room to find it empty. The bathroom had an appearance of faded empire, and the shower unit had a distinct and wilful mind of its own, refusing to turn off without the application of brute force. The bath could have done with a better clean. But that apart it is the only criticism the place was most enjoyable. The staff were friendly and helpful, but the booking procedure could have been better organised. There was a distinct disconnect between the reservations people and the hotel reception. Fortunately, all was resolved by the time we arrived. Would we go back? Yes we would. Definitely.

It would be wrong of this review to give the only five star hotel in Leeds anything less than five stars — but it definitely earns them. This place really is just classy. Set in a refurbished manor house from the eighteenth century, it is now a popular place for weekend breaks due to it’s tranquil location, stunning surroundings and private golf course. It is also a favourite venue for conferences and weddings, amongst other special occasions. I recently went to a relative’s wedding reception here and I was stunned by just how luxurious and elegant everything about Oulton Hall is. The décor is traditional yet has a contemporary twist, while the service is professional. The food and drink itself would not have been out of place in a Michelin starred restaurant, while the function room later served to be an excellent dancefloor. As for the hotel itself, I stayed just one night, but that was enough to make me want to go back. The rooms are furnished classically and come with everything you’d expect from a five-star establishment — television, en-suite bathroom, breaktaking view — and the beds are unbelievably comfortable. There is, of course, an excellent swimming pool and spa facilities, as well as an upmarket restaurant and bar on the ground floor. I would recommend Oulton Hall to anyone who wishes to have a weekend away without leaving Leeds — the only drawback, as you’d expect from a five-star hotel, are the prices.
