I really don’t visit Mook all that often. And based on the last two visits, I’m still not sure I’d get over here more often, but that’s not to say it’s not worth a visit. One visit was for a private leaving do, and my friend had hired the upstairs bar. Here’s where it’s not so great. The room is in desperate need of an update, as it’s not the most attractive. It feels a little bit like a 90s grotty disco, and the floor being carpeted(and subsequently sticky from all the drink spillage) doesn’t help. That being said, the proper bar downstairs is still great. I love their quirky lighting above the bar, and the cocktails(whilst not your usual — they seem famed more for their house-invented tipples) are lovely. There’s a decent selection of lager, regular DJs, and a few comfy booths for a natter. The staff have always been good craic, so it’s a jolly time, and for what it’s worth they always seem to serve in order rather than preference. I’m a fan of that, I hate pushers-in. All in all, this stalwart on the scene is living on and strong, and I’m glad of it. I’ll be back, I know it, but it just might not be for a while.

Good cocktails, outdoor area which I’m sure is not so nice during the day lol. This place might be a bit sticky but its big, always room for a group, dancing if you’re in the mood and pretty much always offers on the cocktails. Good stop off on a night out

If you can make it to the bar, for either the crazy crowds on a Friday/Saturday, or the sticky well worn carpet, then Mook’s drinks offers are some of the best in Leeds… Besides that it’s a little dingy, and the music is far from my ‘scene’… But the bar staff are mostly friendly, and they do put the most amazing French Martini together considering the absolutely pedestrian ingredients they work with — though the new addition of raspberry sauce to the recipe should honestly be rethought. If it weren’t for the cheap drinks, would anyone ever go in? I’m not all together sure…

I love Mook not as a night-out place but as a place to get quietly sloshed with a few mates on a weeknight. Their cocktails are great, the staff are knowledgeable and the music is somehow always just what i fancy. It can be a bit dead so it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea and the interior is a bit so-so, but still fab.

I love Mook. It’s a really nice little hidden gem in Leeds that isn’t *too* well known so it never really gets packed to the rafters which is good. The cocktails are amazing and even better when they’ve got their two-for-one deals on the go. Definitely worth a visit.

I just had to update my review on Mook after visiting on Sunday. Approaching the doorway, my partner and I were met by a group of guys arguing with the doormen to get in… they quickly got shifted aside as we got ushered in by the most accommodating door staff. Literally felt like the Queen… anyway…it was buzzing inside as the 2−4−1 cocktail offer was on(you can only pick 2 of the same cocktail mind!) so we expected to be waiting a while… WRONG! We were served in around 5 minutes and watched as our ‘Diamond Fizz’ cocktails were expertly shaken up. Finding our way to a booth with a candle, we settled down to sip our cocktails. I would recommend that if anybody visits here in the evening, they should sit with a vantage point of the ladies toilet… it’s amazing how many men walk in by accident then run out looking hugely embarrassed. I doubt I helped matters by cackling like a wicked witch each time it happened! Yummy cocktails and a chilled out vibe make Mook the perfect place to soak up the atmosphere and have a tipple. Beware, you might need to hold onto the table after a few drinks… I swear the floor starts to move ;)

Tucked away down a small back alley this is a very quaint looking bar from the outside, once inside its quite generic but nice all the same. The staff are friendly and the bar is clean and tidy, the staff even came round cleaning the tables which is something you don’t often see on a Friday night. I had a good dance and the DJ was pretty good, not too willing to play requests which is a shame as I do feel more people would have got up to dance if he had done. The drinks were ok nothing to shout about but well presented and the serving time was quick. If you fancy a cocktail and a boogie this could be the place for you, however I would advise getting there early on in the night as it was quite quiet when we got there and the atmosphere was a little flat.

I don’t drink very often, but how could I pass up a 2 for 1 deal(probably one of the cheapest cocktail drinks you could get at a bar)? Bring a friend and split… or if you’re like most people I’ve noticed in the UK take that 2 for 1 for yourself and consider it saving some major quidages. I forgot the name of the drink I got, but it was minty, chocolaty, and somewhat coffee-ish… HAHA if you could figure that out… GETTHATONE! it was pretty amazing — which I think says a lot coming from someone who doesn’t even like alcohol…(yeah… what am I doing in the UK?!) ambiance is pretty chill which is always good. no pressure like clubs at all. get a grab on that 2 for 1 and relax for a change… you could go clubbing some other night… or I guess you could go after hitting up Mook if the 2 for 1 didn’t get the best of you.

Mook is tucked away in a silly location that makes it hard to find unless you know exactly where you are going. Once you find the place, you noticed a few things at first — it’s rather dark inside and they seem to like their cocktails. Also, there is a lack of seating. This all means it’s great once the night is in full swing but early on the place just looks unappealing. The good thing about going earlier though is the drinks offers(2−4−1 on cocktails at one point I believe). That’s if you drink cocktails — give me a beer any day! Unfortunately they don’t have a lot of this either(beer) with the standard Carling and Fosters on offer. Overall an okay bar but certainly nothing to get excited about.

If you’re looking for a classy and an elegant place to sip your £10 cocktails, this is not the place to go. Mook does however present one of the most appealing drinks offers in the city. The 2 for 1 offer is too good to refuse. People drawn to Mook primarily are students, however its a great place for an after work ‘i need a drink’ beverage. Having taken my mum here(she was severely horrified that i should frequent such a place) it reinforced the fact that Mook really is a pre-drinks kind of place. In disregard to my mum, I feel Mook is a great place to meet friends and have a cocktail or 5. The staff are perfectly friendly and resident Dj’s give off an indie/pop feel keeping in perfect tone with the young, fresh ambiance of Mook. I highly recommend the Manhattan, all cocktails are made freshly in front of you, very impressively i might add. And with the 2 for 1 deal a second round is just too much to pass up.

I’ve been in Mook a few times now, always a good crowd, and their range of cocktails is second to none, I love the(or how ever they spell it!). Some people think of it as a pre-club bar, but I say why bother moving on! Others say this place is unpretentious, and they are certainly right, I can’t recommend it enough to be honest!

Tucked away behind Space, Mook is somewhere between a typical studenty hang out, and a trendier Call Lane bar. It’s main draw comes from it’s 2 for 1 offer(2 for a fiver) on it’s large selection of cocktails, made in front of you quickly by the barstaff, as they try frantically to keep up with the number of customers trying to catch their attention on the other side of the bar. **Warning: The Long Island Iced Tea is LEATHAL.** The bar is on 2 levels, one with the bar and some seating, the other with more seating, and a DJ booth with dancing space in front. There is an upstairs area to mook that they do ocassionally open for larger/private events. I have only been up there once, and I am ashamed to admit, I do not remember enough of it to really comment or pass judgment. I do like Mook, and have fond memories of dancing with other peoples’ parents in there around my graduation. Though I don’t go often, I highly recommend it to students who fancy something other than a flat pint of lager and a bag of pork scratchings, without breaking the bank.

Mook, awful name aside, is a charming little bar well hidden in Hirst’s yard near the bottom of town. I first noticed the place a while back when staggering out of Space at an ungodly hour one Thursday night/Friday morning, and it looked appealing to me even then, despite the fact that I was seeing double. I had never heard of the place, but vowed to check it out one day, and that one day came a few months back on a Saturday evening. I was surprised at how busy such a well hidden bar was, but even more surprised by the laid back atmosphere and refreshing lack of pretence that is all too common in a cocktail bar in Leeds on a weekend. The clientèle were a mixture of old and young, and while the DJ played some banging electro, it was much more a bar than a club — a few people were dancing, but most were just chatting away, which is possible as the music is at the perfect volume. Drinks-wise, the cocktails are inexpensive for what they are, and there’s beer and wine at surprisingly low prices(under a tenner for a bottle of house). If you can manage find Mook down that dark alley they call Hirst’s yard, get involved. You won’t regret it.

Down an alleyway off one of the main roads in Leeds(by a club called Space) this looked pretty cool from the outside. I went in for a drink with a group of friends about 1am on a Saturday night and it was free entry. The first bar area is pretty cool I loved all the naked lightbulbs overhead and the service was quick(it wasn’t that busy). We went and sat near the DJ booth which has a small dancefloor in front and they were playing some pretty good music — indie, electro and funk. Perhaps it was down to the time of night it was but the atmosphere wasn’t great, it was a bit dull and empty. was good for a chilled drink for an hour though.

I loved Mook when I came here! The staff were lovely, the atmosphere was electric, and most of all it was one of my first dates with Hot Steve and we had an ace time. Also, the clientele were pleasantly unpretentious for a city-centre bar. I even accidentally ended up at Mook when I was supposed to be taking people to Room, which says a lot really. I hate Room.
