Visited Modern Hairdressing for a cut and finish on Thursday. Really happy with my haircut which is the main thing, and the place itself is furnished/fitted out to a really high standard(they have TV’s built into the walls next to the mirrors so you can watch TV while getting your haircut!) The only thing which lets this place down is the service. I didn’t really feel looked after during my visit(no-one acknowledged me when I entered for example).

06.06.2011. A contemporary take on the traditional barber shop. Not Trumpers of St James’, but pleasant enough. Neither is it a bustling branch of Toni & Guy as, at least when I visited, there were no women. Music was loud Foo Fighters/Kings of Leon. I asked for a shampoo & cut. I got a shampoo(without conditioner) and a careful cut from a pleasant enough young man who refrained from conversation. It would have been polite if not nice to have had even the most basic of information:(eg. «I’m just going to do your fringe, how long?» would have been nice! Neither though, was there any attempt to sell me hair products or other services. I wasn’t offered a coffee let alone the glass of wine one gets in most salons in this price bracket. I know it’s a barber shop(and I confess it’s years since I last went into one), but I feel male customers here are missing the service/attention/pampering that is uniformly offered in Sassoon/T&G/Lisa Sheppard et al. I would go again — if only because there was no appointment necessary and it’s at least £10 cheaper than where I usually go.

Been visiting Modern Hairdressing for best part of 6 years and dont go anywhere else. The standard is high — have only ever had one dubious cut! Gillian is excellent as is James. The salon has recently been refurbished and looks modern. They always have cool tunes playing. A little on the pricey side — but you gets what you pays for.
