This Funky Pigeon store is quite small and located in Leeds Train Station. As a fan of the website, I was very excited when I saw this store, expecting cheap, personalised cards however this store is the completly oppsoite to the website, they sell hallmark cards which the website do not sell at sky high prices, one card was £4.59 and one was £2.79 and a personalised, cool card on that website would be their A5 size and could cost £2. I admit they are nice cards but the especially compared to the website, where you can personalise cards for cheaper. I don’t even know what Funky Pigeon has in this store apart from a computer with it on. Funky Pigeon fans, stick to personalising cards online because these cards are not personalised and at ultra-high end pricing. The cards are so expensive, they only have lettering to determine the price and around the store they is very few signs to say for example NN is such a price, hence I was shocked when I got to the till, expecting to pay no more than a fiver, even that would of been a bit pricey. I wouldn’t go to this store again because simply they are far too overpriced and nothing like the website, and you can’t personalise cards already made in the shop. Funky Pigeon need to stick to personalised, cheap cards online, making stores selling expensive Hallmark cards would only put people off the brand so I have to give a single one star.

It has to be said, although I’m not a fan of their adverts and silly ditty, I am a fan of this wee shop in the train station. It’s only a small space, but there’s actually hoards of cool options for gift cards within, so don’t be fooled into thinking you won’t find much choice. There are plenty of the amusing options, with random cats, silly captions, and the rest. The odd rudey cards(which I’m not hugely fond of) and quite a number of pretty cards to pick from as well. Of course, there are a number of little gifts, to bump up your sentiments, which is always handy if you’re at a loose end. The staff were lovely, the transaction was swift and smooth, and it meant I had a lovely card for a friend without having to trawl through tons of crud. Happy days. Bob in and take a look!

Passing through on the way to get a train to visit my mum, I realised I’d forgotten to buy her a card to say thanks for some recent acts of fabulous kindness and generosity. The Paperchase stall would normally be my default choice in the train station, but at just after 7am it was yet to open. I looked around and Funky Pigeon caught my eye, and of course the annoying hook line from their tv advert popped into my head :^D I nipped in to have a look and they had a brilliant range of cards and gifts. Plenty of choice from funny through cute to classy and beautiful cards. The only thing I’d say is that the range of ‘Thank You’ cards specifically was a bit limited, but there were plenty of cards for other occasions, and ‘blank inside’ cards. Probably just sods law for me as I was in such a rush! On the downside, the store was small and there was very little room on the ‘aisles’. It was a bit of a squeeze to get past someone, and as a result I knocked some cards on the floor with my handbag, which was a bit embarrassing. Had I been going on a longer trip away with a bit more luggage or the Mini MacDoos in tow, there’s no way I could have got around the store. It was also pretty pricey, but no more than I’d expect to pay from any ‘premium’ card retailer, especially one positioned in a train station, where I think you have to expect to pay through the nose for the last minute emergency purchases. So to sum up, if you’re a doofus like me and you need to pick up a last minute card in the train station, Funky Pigeon will serve it’s purpose well for you. If you’ve got a bit more time, then I’d say you’ll probably have a better experience elsewhere(see my other reviews for other card shop options!)
