I popped in here for the second time today, purely because I decided to have a haircut on a whim and their 45% off offer for students made it £20! Nice! I arrived and waited for my stylist on some big comfy sofas, before having my hair washed(rather vigorously– more digging than massage…) and having a simple cut. The stylist(Nicki) was lovely, just the right amount of chat and gave me little tips on how to deal with my hair, and did a lovely job. I’ve only given it 3 stars because of the hair washing experience; not only was it quite a rough wash, but whilst I was head-in-sink, another colleague came over to bitch about someone, and then a manager came over to tell the washer off for making a pricing mistake. Not the most professional way, and mega awkward for me sitting there with my hair in her hands! The décor is nice and new, but very same-y when you consider how similar it looks to most other salons in the city centre. I probably will go again, purely because it’s cheap. Not sure I would spend nearly £40 for essentially a trim! Pros: Cheap with discount. Nice haircut, simple trim and fringe tidy. Hair lovely and shiny after Stylist lovely Easy to find location Cons: Somewhat unprofessional junior staff and the manager that thought it was appropriate to tell staff off(no matter how junior!) in front of customers Décor is nothing too different

I think I have tried the vast majority of hair salons in Leeds city centre. It is really difficult to find one that isn’t too pretentious, not extortionately overpriced and where the stylists will actually deem you worthy of their conversation. There is nothing worse than having your hair styled by a hairdresser who judges you, when you are paying them for the privilege. As you can sense, I have had a few bad experiences! Ego Hair Salon is the one I return to most frequently, in fact I have just realised how much my tresses are in need of some attention. On my first visit, I received 20% off the cost of the work done, which was an attractive incentive, considering I was opting for a cut and colour. It can be a expensive affair. I waited for my hair stylist to arrive in the warm and contemporary reception area. The salon is relatively new so everything has that untouched glow. My stylist was extremely friendly, dismissing my slight tardiness and leading me to my seat. I am the victim of indecision when I enter a hairdressers. Sensing this weakness, she gave me her invaluable advice, with which I agreed. I do enjoy reading when I am having my hair done, and whilst I did so, the friendly conversation flowed. Getting my hair coloured does take almost three hours, which seems like an eternity if there is any hint of awkwardness. But that was not the case. The guy who washed my hair was absolutely hilarious. A really affable character, we had a fascinating discussion about Russian literature, childbirth and Harry Potter amongst other things! I got a positive impression from my experience at Ego, and will continue to get my hair done at this salon. As a matter of urgency judging by the looks of my locks.

The perfect place to go if you want to pose, as the name suggests. Fully glass fronted so you get the full goldfish bowl effect all the stylists and receptionists resemble extravagant members of the Hollyoaks cast with various colours, textures and tangents to their hairstyles. Comfortable, clean, new, posh and a lovely price tag to fit. Go here if your ego requires your hair to represent you, as a person.
