I was about 12 years old, we were enjoying a family holiday on the Yorkshire East coast. I can remember the day vividly as I had woken early enough to watch«Saved by The Bell» and«Pugwall» on Channel 4. With all this extra time to kill until my mates awoke I took my BMX for a quick spin around the camp site. But, Chris what the hell does this have to do with your experience at Bar Risa, well I’m coming to that! As I rode around on my BMX that summer morning I spotted a group of 3 rather attractive older girls and decided to pop a wheelie as I sped past. At that precise moment a ladybird flew into my eye, causing me to lose control and crash my bike into the toilet block. This was the fifth most embarrassing and unrepeatable experience of my life and has recently been replaced by my first and only excursion into Bar Risa.

I was introduced to Thursdays Vodka Bunker at Bar Risa a few months ago by a friend and I must say, I had an amazing time there. The bar is extended by a further room which also has a long bar so makes waiting around for drinks a little quicker than usual. The RnB music was good, plenty of chice from brand new to older classic RnB tracks. The crowd wasn’t bad but as usual in clubs, it was full of young, skinny girls wearing elastic bands as skirts and tops and glowing from their overly applied fake tans. Apart from this minor problem, everything was excellent. Drinks are a good price with lots of offers on. And if you’re lucky enough to get a free polaroid pic taken by the Jagermeister team, you’ll even get a free flowery orange lei to wear… stylish or what!

I have not once ever warmed to Bar Risa. I find it full of mothers dressed in what looks like nothing more than a bikini, pretending they are 21 again. The music is average with some good current chart tunes and hi-hop and RnB some nights! Thursday nights bring in huge crowds with the DJ pumping popular tracks and £1.50 drink promotions! However on other nights of the week the place is dead. You couldn’t pop in here for a drink as the bar is so large and all the space personally make me feels a little awquard and vibe seem bare! Don’t let my dislike put you off however. My pal loves it there on a Thursday and Saturday night and says it’s brill for a good boogie. Nevertheless it is not for me, I find it all a little chavvy! If you want to begin the weekend a little earlier than usual however Thursday night will be one of you cheapest and busiest options for a boogie and bevvy!

Risa has been an important part of the Leeds clubbing scene for many years, and for as long as I can remember, Risa has offered one of the best Thursday nights in Leeds. Thursday is a pretty huge night in this city, with student and locals usually mingling to start the weekend early, and Risa(and to an increasing extent, Space) provides the premier spot for this to happen. Vodka Bunker is the cheeky name of the night, and, after paying around £4 to get in, you’ll find a selection of drinks for £1.50, and a vodka-induced crowd swaying to chart, RnB and Hip Hop. During the day, Risa is open as a sports-type lounge, offering reasonable pub-style food and dozens of televisions showing various sports. The atmosphere, day or night, rarely disappoints. Long may it continue.

Bar Risa is a nice little club that is fun, cheap and cheerful. The music is a little bit on the cheesy side with a bit of rnb that everyone can enjoy. It is also is a nice bar that you can go early on and chill out with some nice food available at reasonable prices. BAr risa is also part of the jongleurs comedy club which once you go can get in free to bar risa afterwards if one is looking to make a night of it. Has both a good night on the weekend and a fun student night with cheap drinks available on both nights.

Bar Risa is a fun club and is busy most nights of the week. It is cheap and the music is cheesy. Great for a cheap and cheerful night out.
