The wyvern is prob the worst pub i have ever eaten in the gen manager was rude and the food well it was the worst meal ive ever had its a shame that fullers let people ruin their great reputation although they did have an amazing chef about a month ago but from what i can gather from the staff he had enough of the badly managed pub and interuptions by the over weight rude boss a shame it could be a great pub

I have visited the wyvern many times and in past have been extremely satisfied, but had noted the staff in the last few months seem to change over extremely quickly and up until Valentines 2011 the food was excellend. Sadly having gone there the other evening I was very saddened by the quality of the food, I had what was called ‘grunt’ supposedly pork in a rich tomato sauce on a bed of noodles, well the pork tasted like roast leftovers, the rich tomato sauce didn’t even exist and was more like a soup in general gravy. When I commented I was advised that the manager said the sauce was too thin and to add gravy granules. Totally unedible, I was not offered a discount for my meal which I only had 2 mouthfuls of or anything, so felt totally cheesed and not much of an apology either. It makes me really sad to find a restaurant i visit reasonably often to have gone down hill to this degree and wouldn’t recomment to anyone now. Previously I couldn’t praise it enough and told all my friends to go there and even recommended to work.

The Wyvern is a really good pub offering surprisingly good food. It is surprisingly traditional inside and has a good selection of ales from Fullers. I can recommend most of them, but be careful as some are quite strong(I am still on the critical list from my visit) they had ESB, London Pride and HSB which were all on draught. There was also some weaker session beer available but curiously I managed to avoid it. The food was lovely and obviously in demand as a few of the specials had run out. I shall have to return for the ‘award winning faggots’ which unfortunately were not available. We had the fish pie which was delicious and came accompanied with fresh carrots and cabbage. The bros had chicken pie and he seemed well pleased. I guess the prices are typical, it was not expensive, but not as cheap as some of the chains– effectively you pay for what you get. The service behind the bar was good and with no long waits. To be fair the waitress apologised for a delay with the food although to be honest I don’t think anyone in our party noticed. I reckon I must have become immune to delays after sampling Wetherspoons at Port Solent. Overall a very pleasant pub offering good food and beer– you can’t ask for more than that!

The Wyvern is a pub, bar, restaurant located in a lovely setting in an 18th century building with outside seating in the garden areas located to the front and rear of the property with a small play area built for younger children. Under recent management change this new couple have managed to transform this pub from a quite, boring bar to one of atmosphere, good service, good food friendly staff. Children are welcomed inside or out with food being available in smaller portion size where required. Check the food boards behind the bar for specials. Fish and chips highly recommended served with a lovely crispy batter — Sunday roasts are offered until 6pm and are always very popular, with some wonderful roast potatoes!
